Was listening ti an interview with Tom Glavine tonight and made me remember how nasty Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz were.  Best rotation of my lifetime for sure, best ever?

Top three easily. I miss those days.

If not the best rotation, they were certainly one of them.

In 1966, I was a kid growing up in the Atlanta area when the Braves came to town.  Life was good. Went to a lot of games, especially in 1969.  There were some pretty lean years during the 1970's and 1980's, though, so it was great to see them have such a good run for 15+ years.  Times are kind of tough right now, though.

The 2nd best of my generation would have to be the 98 Yankees.  Cone, Pettite, El Duke, Boomer Wells.  3rd would probably be one of the recent Giants rosters when the Freak was the Freak or the 86 Mets with Gooden and Darling in their prime.  Statistically they were amazing.

Just seeing their names together reminds me of this interview:

Being able to watch all the Braves games on TBS made them my second favorite team.  Hell, I saw more of their games than Dodger games.

Hard to believe they only won one World Series.

Probably the best, if not one of the best for a sustained run - few teams have kept 3 elite pitchers together for 3 or 4 years, much less 10. For individual seasons, they combined for some good numbers, but they didn't put up the best single-season rotation numbers ever, though they had some extremely good ones.

Of course, the early 2010s Phillies had a pretty darn good rotation, as much as I hate to admit it: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/best-rotation-ever/

2010 Phillies were awesome but didn't get it done against the Cardinals.

Interesting Fact about the 86 Mets: Not one pitcher was a 20 Game Winner.  All the wins were spread out throughout the pitching staff.

Personally - and I will admit to prejudice - the 1969 Miracle Mets.  The Tom (Seaver) & Jerry (Koosman) Show was amazing.  Then there was the bullpen with Tug McGraw and an inexperienced Nolan Ryan.

All 3 really good, but I don't think they will be as good as the big 3. They might put up some great combo individual seasons, but the part that made the Braves' rotation so good was the sustained run of combined pitching. I don't see that happening

I managed to get tickets for Every Saturday Home game the Mets had that year.  What was really Amazin' is that the 1986 Mets Had Zero 20-Game winners.  They did have SIX (6) Pitchers that had 10 or more Wins.

Bob Ojeda had the most wins with 18, Dwight Gooden only had 17 wins.  See more stats here.

As I recall, Steve Avery was in that lineup too, making it even tougher.

Best ever....I had so much fun watching the games with my dad.  Post season baseball was of course even better....miss my dad and it makes me realize it's not just "sports" but rather experiences you share with those you love

Still not better than the Braves of the early nineties. Plus they are in the toughest division in MLB.

2001 wasn't too bad, we had Johnson and Schilling. Both won over 20 games and both pitched in game seven of the WS.

That's what I was going to say.  Although that is only 40% of their rotation, you would only need a decent 3-5 and they didn't even have that.  They won the world series though so I would say those 2 were better than a lot of full staffs.

As a kid growing up in the lat 60's and early 70's, I was fortunate to watch some of the best players of all time.
I'll never forget Dave McNally hitting a grans slam in the World Series.
A pitcher hitting a home run?  They were usually a guaranteed out, and here he goes and hits a grand slam, in the World Series.
The stuff kids dreams are made of.

Them days are gone, it's all specialists today, you got long and short relievers if the pitch count goes too high or the starter is roughed up, you got setup men for the 7th and 8th inning, and you have the firebreathing closers for the 9th. I can't remember when is the last time I saw a complete game
