Well figure this may be a good place for this.  I recently switched jobs and am looking for a quality laptop backpack.  Previously my employer provided us swissgear laptop bags.  I had several different versions while working for my last employer.  They were decent bags but cumbersome and not very streamlined.  I don't need to carry as many accessories/cables in this new role so a sleeker bag is ok.  Any recommendations?  I don't mind paying for quality, but what I am seeing is a bunch of companies that used to be made in America still charging those prices for bags that are now made in china and the reviews seem to point to quality going downhill.

I have the Vertx Gamut.

I was hesitant to order as I'm really picky about bags. I tend to hold on to them for as long as possible, even if that means pulling out the sewing kit to patch them up. The Gamut is a hair taller then what I would consider perfect, I'm 5,9". If I snug up the shoulder straps the bag stays just off my belt line. Lots of convenient features.

I may end up with another of these as they seem to be the go to for bags. While they are solid, I just am not very fond of them.

I'll check it out.  I feel the same way about being picky.  Ideally I would really like to hold the bag in person but that isn't always possible.

Thank you both.

I just picked up an Ogio Renegade and could not be happier. I had a Saddleback briefcase and an Oakley pack previously. Neither of them were good fits for all of the stuff I carry around on any given day.  This one is perfectly suited for that.

I use a Maxpedition Falcon II and really like it.  I took off all the extra straps it came with though.  Fit's a 15" laptop with no problem and has compartment for a weapon if you need it.

I have this bag and have used it for a laptop. It is a great bag but it is not padded, so long as you're mindful of that fact when slinging it around it is fine.
