[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Dual 970 GTX SLI worth it?

I am building a new computer and have a 4GB 970 GTX I will transfer over. Is it worth it to get another one and hook them up in SLI? I have a 4k monitor and will play more high end game: FPS, ETS and spaceflight (Star Citizen is the plan) mainlymainly.

Sell the 970 and buy a 1070 to replace it, net cost would be about $200 and it will outperform two 970s.

Sli and Crossfire is iffy...

Some games benefit but most will not.

All the games ported from a console game will not benefit at all.

Better off buying a better single card.

I have a GTX 970 and will use it to upgrade my kids pc and i'm thinking real hard about a GTX 1070 to upgrade mine.

Or your local classifieds (craigslist) so you don't have to give 10% to eBay, 3% to paypal, and another chunk to USPS. If it doesn't sell after a couple weeks, eBay.

I would give the AMD RX480 a hard look.

Unless you have a Gsync monitor, team red might have the price:performance king for this generation.

The GTX 970 and the RX480 are pretty close in performance, it wouldn't make much sense to go from one to the other.

I would have to agree with top reply. Sell and get 1070 or even spend an extra buck and push for 1080.
