I appreciate the build breakdown. This is a little out of my price range right now. Maybe I'll just get something basic for now and something more capable later. What laptops come closest to what I need for $300-$700? Thanks.

What are the best of the general use laptops under $500? Just looking for something to handle word processing, itunes library, and web surfing. Would a desktop offer better performance? If so, what are some excellent choices for the price range above.
