Hey gang,

I know very little about this stuff.  I did several searches to find what was best under my price point but all the different options made my head spin.   I need something under $800 that can handle games and music production software.  A laptop would be nice but I'm willing to go desktop if performance is substantially better.

Thanks

You're gonna need to double your price point.

What games?

What production software?

It can be done in your price range if you aren't doing anything particularly demanding.

Music programs such as FL Sudio and Pro Tools.  Don't have any games yet but when I do it will be the latest and greatest and probably online as well.  Thanks.

I rarely agree with Enigma, but he's right on this one.  For games you're gonna need a decent video card, for pro tools you'll need a decent CPU and and some speedy RAM.

I appreciate the build breakdown.  This is a little out of my price range right now.  Maybe I'll just get something basic for now and something more capable later.  What laptops come closest to what I need for $300-$700?  Thanks.

What are the best of the general use laptops under $500?  Just looking for something to handle word processing, itunes library, and web surfing.  Would a desktop offer better performance?  If so, what are some excellent choices for the price range above.
