I currently have a Linksys WRT54G and it used to work fine bu,t with all the demands from netflix, amazon prime, pandora,  phones, tablets and other devices, it seems that I need to reset it fairly often.

I'm willing to spend around $250 for something that can run everything smoothly.

What do you recommend?

Thanks!

Mine died recently.  I got this one to replace it.  So far I've been impressed.

I had the same Linksys, and it was a beast.  When it died, I replaced with the n version.  It has worked very well, allowing me to use more devices and has a stronger signal.  At the same time, I upgraded my service to a faster line.  So I can't say for sure that the router was the sole reason for my better performance.

Meh. If I were to spend that much money, I would just build a PFSense machine.

I am currently using a Cisco 2504 WLC and a 2821 router.  I got tired of dealing with garbage home routers.  Bought the stuff used on eBay and Amazon.

I upgraded from a WRT54G to a TP-Link AC router.  It doesn't have the same bells and whistles as the Linksys with 3rd party firmware but I don't have any complaints with the price.  I have 3 phones, 3 tablets, 3 laptops and 2 Google Chrome's beating on it.

I used a Netgear Nighthawk until the 5g radio went out on me.

Bought a Asus AC2400.  It has been a awesome router.  Great UI.  QoS works very well.  Range is great.  Zero downtime other than power outages.

It's right at your spending limit but I would buy another in a heart beat.

Only thing better would be to build a Pfsense box or go enterprise quality.

Asus RT-N66U.  IF you coming from the Classic Linksys, reliability is probably important to you.  The RT-N66U seems to be the current benchmark for that.

I like to keep it simple-stupid at home.  Apple AirPort Extreme (or Time Capsule) for the primary AP and AirPort Expresses for network expansion.  I recently gave my parents the AirPort Extreme I've had for nearly five years when I upgraded to a Time Capsule.  It had been rock solid without so much of  a reboot outside of the times Apple pushed firmware upgrades or power loss.

I went with a Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite and a Unifi AP combination. No issues. Mounted the AP in the ceiling on the second floor with a long cable run from the switch in the basement which also helps.
