Update

Well the dvd drive was the problem. It would play other dvds but not the windows 7 dvd.

I got a external one and it finally loaded.

Now i have to figure out how import all my favorites back.

I used the easy transfer from windows.

Many Thanks guys.
Windows 7 on my computer.

Trying to upgrade from xp.
It will not load from the cd drive.

I have tried to follow what windows says to do but no luck.

Everything is up to date on the computer.

Just don't know what i am doing wrong.

Gonna need more info, like an error screen or something.

I am assuming you put the disk in the drive, it starts the upgrade process and then....what?

Also, is your Hardware able to run Win7?  If you have an old system that XP came installed on, I have bad news for you....

It will not even run the disk.

When i go to the computer icon in the start icon and select the cd drive it does not show the cd.

I ran their compatibility scan and it should my computer should run it.

Details?  Is the drive good or bad?

Edited to add:  If you have access to another pc, there's a utility out there that allows you to install the OS from a usb stick.  I'll look for it and post it's name.  If anyone else finds it before me, feel free to post.

Another edit:  here's a link to the usb install tool.

I can run any other dvd/cd.

Have been into bios and changed the boot to dvd drive.

My computer did not come with recovery dvd/cd's.

Thanks for all the helps guys.

have you set you dvd drive as the boot drive in bios? make an image on a USB drive and install from the memory stick, its so much faster that way

If you want to install Win 7 from a usb stick, an .iso file of the install DVD can be found here:  http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

Download the proper .iso file and use the USB disk creator I linked to earlier in the post.

is this an official looking dvd?
or something someone burned?
sounds like it is a burned one, that they didn't make bootable.
