I'm pretty sure I'm using DAplayer.

Works good enough to satisfy me and is free, to boot.

Blu-ray's algorithms are patented by some group other than Microsoft.

If Microsoft wrote their own decoder and put in windows 7, they'd get sue for patent royalties by the Blu-ray group.

Microsoft does not want to pay Blu-ray group a royalty fee for every copy of windows to have a Blu-raycodec, whether it would be used or not.

Thus, no built in Blu-ray decoder for Windows.

Wait 20 years for Blu-ray patents to expire, at that time Windows 20 will have free built in blu-ray playing.... no it won't because we won't be using blu-ray disc bin 20 years.. it will be a new format, which will be covered by fresh patents.

Yup, makes sense.

I'm waiting and wanting for everything to go digital- it's almost there. I want want MP3s did for CDs to happen to DVD and Blue-Ray. I'm just sick and tired of disks laying all over the place.
