I like doing timelapse stuff, but I don't like babysitting the equipment.  The result is that people just can't refrain from messing with stuff, sometimes out of innocent mistake, other times just to be snarky.

I'll probably pick up a pair of Genie Minis to get pan and tilt capabilities.  It adds a little over a pound of weight, but it's probably worth it because it adds more visual interest.

Oh, and if you have some time to kill, this guy does awesome work ...

This is just a little from my old Hero 2, I have some more and really should take some more now that I live in a place with weather and can shoot 4k with my session.

I definitely want to get some of our Florida storms. How are you running the GoPro for those extended lengths and keeping it sealed up from the elements?  I have a USB battery pack but not sure how to keep the USB port sealed up.

I did those with my Virb; the USB connection on it is a bit better shielded and then I rubber-banded a plastic bag around the rear end of it.  Ran an extension cord out into the yard and bagged the connections there as well.

I've since picked up a HUGE battery pack that will run the GoPro Session all day; need to work on figuring out the bagging method with it but it's going to be some combination of ziplock bags and rubber bands.

What equipment / cameras were used for this?
A Nikon D800 and a GoPro Hero 5B.

The GoPro was run off of a 10000 mAh battery pack for extended shooting time.

The D800 is what was used to capture the Milky Way images.

The D800 was just using the internal batter, which does quite well for long sessions.  My problem with the D800 was that I shotchanged the intervalometer - only setting it for 120 frames - ~ 1 hour.   My intent was to have it stop right around nautical twilight, because that's the point where my exposure setting was going to get blown out.  And my math flub had it stop an entire hour or two before nautical twilight.

But, the good news is that I've been shooting some stuff around the office, and may have some new stuff worth putting together soon.
