Snap shot.  Caught him out of the corner of my eye while targeting the rabbit.

Is this a cormorant?  I've never seen one before, got a few pics of it cruising around.

Nice shots. I saw a few of those at my last zoo trip.

I'm a fan of full feather shots.

I have a print coming in next couple of days of this that will go on the wall in the guest bathroom.

The zoo lets you have a peacock for $15.

Not yet!

Actually its mother was killed. Had it since it could barely walk. Once he can fly he goes to the pond.

Y'all take some DAMN awesome pics!

What kind of bird is that?  A grosbeak?

Looks like a cardinal, only in navy blue.

D7200
Nikon 80-400 @ 400 f/5.6
ISO and shutter speed varied. Most of these were either 1/400 @ ISO 1000 (+/- some are 1100, some 900) or 1/160 @ ISO 320.
Distance to subject was about 6 feet.

Keeping in mind the crop factor of 1.5x, the D7200 thinks my 400mm is a 600mm. You'd think that'd be enough to really zoom the hell in on something. At 6 feet away, this is what an uncropped image looks like:

Yeah, can't see shit.

But, thanks to the D7200 and its 24 megapixels of resolutiony goodness, we can crop in to see some detail.

All of my recent shots have been 4-6 feet or so.

To cut it down any more I'd have to be in the bushes with the birds.
