A lady from, Emerald Marketing and Promotions, http://emeraldmktg.com/index.html, has approached my wife over the internet
to buy a jpeg for thier publications. I understand you can sell a license to use the photo without giving up the copyright.

Don't know anything about pricing for say, a three year term.
Don't know anything about a photo contract.

Need a mentor. Does anyone do this kind of stuff?

She also has been approached by individuals on facebook to buy stuff. So need to start selling some.
Does anyone know about selling on instaprint, for example.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Here is a deer that wouldn't move out of the way.
It was snorting and stomping, trying to tell us to leave.

If you Google "how to sell or license photography" there's a shit load of information you might want to take a look at while getting additional info here.

Google the question. Make sure of the amount of times it can be used and in what. Also look at PBase and ask some of their members.

All depends on the quality and exclusivity of the image, and what they will use it for.  If it's a one time thing, and they're just going to use it for a single event banner or something for a small client, you aren't going to get more than $100.  If it's for a big client and going to be used across an entire campaign, you could be looking at anywhere from $1000-50000.   Then factor in how unique the image is.  If it is something that has a similar image that can be found elsewhere, and you come at them with too high of a number, they will just look elsewhere.

A friend of a friend hit the jackpot a few years back.  He licensed an image for a small campaign for a credit card company.  Turned out to be a successful campaign, and the image ended up being used to basically rebrand the company for a few years.

It is a silhouette of a sailboat in the middle of the sun during sunset.
The suns rays are rising from each side of the sailboat.

The three general questions when considering photo use licensing:
How long do they want to use the photo?
How big do they want the photo to be?
How many people are going to see it? (How many prints/books/calendars are they publishing? What is their website traffic rate?)
