I've been playing around with a new combo - I picked up a Fujifilm X-E2. So far I've got the 27mm pancake lens for it that is excellent for what it is, and two vintage Nikon primes via adapters: a 50mm f/1.4 AI and a 135mm f/2.8E.

Here's a random shot I got around the house with the 50mm f/1.4:

Thanks, it was nice to get close to one in action. I've gotten a few pics of Osprey here close to home in TX but the one place I find them they tend to stay on side of a lake that you can only get to by boat so all the pics are super long distance and not very sharp. This one was at a pond in the middle of Flagstaff so really easy to watch.

Hit the little "share photo" right-pointing arrow thingy when you click on one of your pics (this is in the lower right of the view window), then pick BbCode from the drop-down box.  Copy that link and paste it here in ARF's editor.

Went out this morning to test out my used (new to me) Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens. This is an old house that is abandoned down the street from me.
Nikon D1, f/4.8 1/100, ISO 200

Thoughts?

I had this somewhat dated piece of climbing gear I wanted to photograph.  I had already taken some photos a couple weeks back, but this idea popped into my head today.

It's been in regular use for 25 years, and it's #1 and #2 cohorts have long been lost to the mountains somewhere along the way.  The #2 was left behind in the NWT of Canada.  Can't remember what ever happened to the #1.  But, the #3 remains, and is shown here along side its more modern successors.  The one in the middle has seen some stuff.  The one on the left is still embarrassingly new and shiny, but it'll see more use in due time.

Testing out my new $10 lightbox build with my flash.  Gotta say I love it so far.  And yes, I could have made the shadows a lot softer under the 1911 but I chose not to.

Thanks, it's the first 1911 I owned.  Borrowing it from my folks, since I don't have any firearms at the moment.

The lightbox is really easy btw.  2 sheets of white foamcore cut to make a box with a small gap at the top rear, and the back wall slanted at ~20 degrees ish.  A white sheet of posterboard cut to fit (with overflow sliding out the top and blocked at the bottom with a thin strip of foamcore).  The top has 2 strings of white LED string lights I picked up forever ago for $2-3 on Amazon to help get rid of shadows but also have a 2 sheets of printer paper taped over them as a diffuser.  (as in side by side, not overlapping)

So all in all $10 or so but man, this thing came out awesome.

Edit:

I'm planning on making a more durable version large enough for rifles here once the money comes available.  Probably use a 1x1" frame with white ABS panels and better lights, but also have slots cut into the frame to have slide in diffusers, matte/satin/foamcore inserts and bounce cards, maybe even a port for my flash to mount on the top and diffuse that way.  Although I'd have to come up with some way to partially close the front to work as a bounce card as well.

Idea while I'm typing:  Basically make a clothes chest style frame and have the top open to insert stuff.  Could work.
