Or was that auto? Trying to get a handle on how much I should let the camera auto-select; like if I know I want a certain aperture or shutter speed and don't want to go full manual. What I've been doing with the Tamron is usually forcing f/8 and sometimes forcing an appropriate shutter and letting auto-ISO do it's work. |

What I've been doing with the Tamron is usually forcing f/8 and sometimes forcing an appropriate shutter and letting auto-ISO do it's work. It was on auto. I was going from sunlight to shade to mixed light, no time to try test shots. Auto ISO and TTL fill flash (sometimes) win the day in those conditions. Exposure comp set to +0.7 for the meter, -1.7 for the fill flash. I set the shutter speed I need, and either manually do the aperture (to force a smaller one) or let shutter priority handle it. It works. DSC_1917-Edit by Zack, on Flickr DSC_1968-Edit by Zack, on Flickr DSC_1989-Edit by Zack, on Flickr Regarding ISO, I know you read my thread on exposing to the right. It's best to do that with shutter or aperture, but even using ISO to boost the exposure helps some. The idea is to get the signal to noise ratio as favorable as possible. That lion was 1800 I think. ZFG, I did what I had to do to get the shot. |

Couple B&W from April. Don't have much newer as I've been selling gear to pay some bills.

You get 4 today.
Trying out Zack's "expose to the right". Makes me cringe when I look at the raw, but not bad once processed. Definite improvement on noise reduction. 600mm, 1/320, 1/400, 1/640, f/8, ISO400. All supported handheld. Cropped fairly hard. Subjects 400-500 feet away. More ETTR. These were on a tripod with remote mirror up, some increase in sharpness.
600mm, 1/100, f/8, ISO100, +1/3EV Cropped to 3245x1826 from 6000x4000 and pulled it back to -1.36EV DSC_0005-Pair Reflection1 by FredMan, on Flickr And the original exposure, everything the same except EV as shot (+1/3) DSC_0005-EV0 by FredMan, on Flickr |

Now, today's picture is really a poor shot. Out of focus. But, it tells a story:
I stepped out on my patio about 1 pm this afternoon, and saw a faun running hellbent across the hayfield. I watched in shock as it ran towards the pond, thinking "no way!" The faun jumped in the pond, swam about halfway across, turned around and came running back up through the yard. By this time I had run in, grabbed the camera an managed to get this shot as it ran past me about 25 yards away. DSC_0428-Faun Run by FredMan, on Flickr Here's the route it took. I have no idea what possessed it to put on such a display. Faun Run Path by FredMan, on Flickr |
