Been shooting with a Canon Rebel and then a Nikon D7000 the last couple years. Always wanted full frame but could never justify it. I still can't but I sold some stuff on ebay and thought: "why not do something fun with the cash?"
Had trouble deciding between the Canon 6D and the Nikon. Went with the Nikon because I do landscape and like to push shadows in post. Also take some pics of the dog at the park and I read the autofocus was a little better on the Nikon for 'action.' Did like the feel of the Canon and the GPS but overall my gut said Nikon so here I am. I know it's just an entry level FX camera, but boy am I excited. waiting...waiting...waiting... CSB I know but just wanted to share my excitement. |

Have they definitively fixed the oil spot issues?
I have been holding off on the 600 and looking at the 750 in the future because I have heard of so many problems. Don't mean to scare you, they fix the problems when they come up, but I don't know if they have fixed the manufacturing process that has caused the problems in the first place! Which 50mm did you get? I've been looking at trading my 50mm f/1.8g for a F/1.4g :) Edit: They will service the camera free if you have problems (http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/hs309y82/Updated-Technical-Service-Advisory-for-Users-of-the-Nikon-D600-Digital-SLR-Camera.html |

I don't do tons of low light or portraiture so I didn't see a need for the 1.4 G. The D600 is already going to be better than my D7000. That advisory is why I got a D600 instead of the 610. If they're going to clean it or fix it if I have problems even out of warranty, I figured I would save some $$$ on a nearly identical body. |

Why didn't you buy the D610? A few more features than the 600 and about the same price? Where did you buy from? I have the D610, bought it from B&H and love it!

With the lenses that's probably a good value but I wasn't going to spend that much all at once. I do have a 70-300 though from my D7000 shooting. Only FX lens I have though. Besides the 50 I ordered. So once I find some more play money I'll look into some other lenses. Right now I'm just looking forward to the Camera itself. |

I can't blame you for looking at the 600, but will they still replace it if it's used and registered to someone else? Just curious, that $900 looks very appealing for a EX+ condition!! |

They say they will do it out of warranty and things so I think they're just trying to do whatever they can to get past this. Nikon is making available to all owners of D600 cameras (even if Nikon’s product warranty has expired) |

Right now you have everything you need to start out - a general purpose plus a low light lens. 18mm is plenty wide enough for general landscape photography. Don't spend the money right now until you're sure what you want to do with the camera. Figure out how to use it well and to see creatively. my 2 cents. That's awesome, congrats! You're gonna love the 50mm 1.8. Is yours the screw af lens? I have that one and its one of my favs for my d70 () despite the crop.
I'm still holding out for an fx body to get to about half of current prices. I just had a shot from my d70 printed at 16x20 and to be honest it's hard for me to justify getting anything better. How did it feel to look through the viewfinder and see a big bright field of view for the first time since film? |

Some nice shots. Is that house abandoned?
I've been shooting with a D600 since they first came out. I actually bought one of the first ones B&H sold. So far, I've had no real problems with oil spots. The way I see things, if you have a DSLR, you are going to need to clean the sensor every so often anyway, might as well learn to do it right and do it yourself. I usually clean my sensor twice a year. The first couple of cleanings, I did have oil spots on the upper left-hand side of my images. They took a while to build up, but after those couple of initial cleanings, it was all fine. Just to give you a little lens lust, look at the offerings from Samyang (Rokinon or Bower are the other names they go by). Their glass is excellent and extremely sharp wide open. I really like to shoot with prime lenses but don't have a lot of money to spend, so these lenses are a cheap, yet excellent way to get a good range of glass. I personally have the 14mm F2.8, 35mm F1.4 and 85mm F1.4. The D600 is one excellent camera with rediculous dynamic range and great IQ. I've enjoyed mine ever since I bought it. |

You'll love it. I'm still shooting mine even though I could have upgraded. The oil spot issue for me did not recur after I cleaned at 5000 or so exposures. The 610 has a higher frame rate and more FPS for video, but was largely to quell the internet wrangling over the shutter IMHO.

I purchased a D600 when they were new. It was an absolute curse. I had non-stop problems with crap on the sensor. After sending it back multiple times and having the sensor cleaned, Nikon finally sent me a D610. I sold that thing as fast as I could. Supposedly, the D610 solved the issue with the shutter that was causing crap on the sensor, but I wanted to get away from that model. I used the money to put towards a D750. The D750 is hardly an improvement over a D610, but I really wanted to get away from that model line.
