Unbelievable...

I have at least a terabyte of images in my aperture library.

Why would they do this?

What is a good alternative for a photo management system ?

Download a trial of Lightroom. If you like it (and you probably will) it's $10 a month including Photoshop or ~$130 outright.

Adobe includes an Aperture import plugin to transfer the library into Lightroom.

Yes, Apple is dropping Aperture.  This has been a big talk on many of the photography forums.

I don't use Aperture since I am on Win7, but the $10 per month deal for Lightroom+Photoshop is hard to beat assuming you don't mind "software as a subscription".

ok thanks..

I am already paying for PS on subscription, I may as well try aperture.  Pretty infuriating.  Aperture is a decent tool..

The latest version of LR has the migration plugin included. Not sure if it's different from the one they released a bit ago or not. Of course, not everything is going to migrate unfortunately.

I'm a fan of LR but I'll be keeping my Aperture library. I really don't see the benefit to migrating. It won't kill me to have two possible places to look. Worst case I can migrate on a more ad-hoc basis.

Apple has a history of killing apps:

If you want to use their I-products for your lifestyle, fine.

But I will never trust them to make and continue to support software that makes me $$$$.

yeah...

I gotta admit, as much as i like (or at least used to like), Apple, they seem to have their head up their asses when it comes to killing apps.  My first realization about this came with the demise of Front Row, (still annoyed about that), and than the updates to itunes that destroyed my music library and made itunes a shadow of its former self...

I think Aperture is probably going to be the last Apple branded app I'll be using...
