I wish to put some images of school-age children on my Web site. There are several providers of "free" images online but they seem to have disclaimers about using content. Where can I get safe free images? Not porn or anything, I'm building a legit web site.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone else has done this, and what copyright issues there are. Some of the "free" sites say that even though they don't charge for pics, the owner of the image may charge for it. Is this true?

Try flickr and look for the creative commons disclaimers.  If this is a commercial website that you plan on making money with, then you really should be paying for images.

Lots of micro-stock photography sites out there, selling you exactly what you want at cheap prices.

Check out flickr and the other photo sites and see if the owner will license to you any images you find.

All images are copyrighted. Some images are in the public domain for free use (shot by the government or put there by the owner).  The vast majority of images on the internet are not public domain, nor free, even though you can freely see them.

There are a lot of images on Flickr that only require attribution.
I license all mine this way.
