Well, you'll know in a few hours. I have one with the motorsports package and was pleased with how strong the suction cup is.
I bought the wifi back pack - don't do it, it's a waste of money. I also bought a picatinny rail -> hero mount adapter, pretty cool to slide the mount on and record video. I also bought the Wasabi battery two pack with charger from Amazon, as far as I'm concerned, it's a requirement. Full disclosure: my sister's agency runs GoPro's social media outreach, and she runs the account. |

I've used the Hero and the Hero2, if you can manage I strongly recommend getting the Hero 2. The image is significantly better and the menu's on the Hero 2 are WAY easier to navigate. I never thought that a camera's menu would be so difficult to use, but the menu on the GoPro Hero is like trying to decipher a code book. It's a $60 dollar difference between the Hero and the Hero 2, but IMHO it's $60 well spent. All in all, they're a lot of fun, and what you get with either model is an incredibly robust and valuable piece of equipment priced well below what it should be. |

Ugh- I'm fighting with the wifi back right now.
I use mine primarily on my motorcycles (actually mounted on my helmets most of the time) and it works well for that. The only problem is you have to check it every now and then to see whether you still have battery or SD card left. It beeps to let you know when they are low but you can't hear them unless you're barely crawling. The Wasabi batteries are an improvement over the stock batteries. I'm still learning to use my video editing software. |

I got the camera updated but now the back seems to be hanging. This ought to be simple but it's frustrating as hell- looking on the net it appears lots of folks are having similar issues with it. Kinda like a Microsoft product- rush it to market then put out fixes for problems it never should have left the factory with.

To say we beat the shit out of ours and they keep ticking out be an understatement. I used to own two, but one was stolen in CA.
Whenever we film the King of the Hammers race in California, we use at least 15 GoPro cameras. My only issue with them is the horrible sound, but when my friend edits video, most of the sound is cut out.

I love mine. Use it for shooting, driving, street bike etc etc.
just get a simple program to edit and you can create some nice movies. Cons for me: ease of use, it has 2 buttons so it took a while understanding everything on it. like getting ti film inverted etc etc. I still carry my instructions around because I still forget |

I love mine.
I mostly use it for time-lapse and the occasional POV video (mud run, etc.). Sound sucks bad, if you watch even some of the official GoPro stuff on youtube you'll see anytime they do interviews and such they use a digital recorder... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSJPZ_DQooo about 2:44 in) If the audio is a big deal pick up a digital recorder $70-$100 for a decent one, and a wind screen. I have a Tascam DR-05, and it works great for all sorts of videos. You'll end up spending a lot on all the cool different mounts, but it's so versatile in that way. My favorite (besides the tripod mount) is the chest mount, I find the video looks much smoother, heads move ya know... One tip: unless you actually break the case, you'll probably just scratch the lens which is much cheaper to replace. $15+/- for two vs. $30-$40 for one. Unless you do break the actual case. +1 on going the extra $60 for the Hero 2. So much better. Anyone have the LCD? Thoughts? I was thinking it might make it easier to use? |

Most notably the screen can be tough to see in bright light which is when you'll likely be using it most (GoPro's struggle in lowlight - which is where you'd be able to see LCD screen best - kind of a catch 22). Second, battery life will be somewhat shorter. The LCD has an auto-off after 60 seconds function which is great, but since I've started using it I've noticed more battery issues. I don't know if the LCD draws juice even when it's not lit up or what. I haven't done any real testing, just a few experiences with dead batteries since adding the LCD. Overall I'd still recommend the LCD if you're not on a strict budget. You can most certainly get by without it, but it does come in handy in insuring you've got the perfect shot on your first try. |
