I played it for a lol bit one day.  Son bought it for the ps4.  Played the cowboy Clint Eastwood looking character.  Fun fps. May play more.

I have put a couple tens of hours in it on PC. Mostly been playing Mercy, and Mei or D.Va if someone is already mercying. Not super good at timing my rezzes, still.

Yeah, she is only really good for knocking out turrets and bastion now. Generalizing a bit, but it was probably a good move.

Pharah is one of those that seems like she's struggling since more people are figuring out how to actually counter specific heroes. I feel like the only true safe bets no matter the map/mode are usually going to be s76/reaper, rein/zarya, lucio/mercy (sometimes zen). Pharah is best to take out a bastion with some distance, turrets, splash symmetra turrets, etc. The problem with pharah is that people try to use her on maps that they have no business attempting to use her on. Even on certain payload maps she's best off being used only during certain parts (last push on king's row, nobody suspects her coming from underneath the map). She can still clean house on illios:well for instance if you're good at knocking people into the well. I can get multi kills easily on nepal:sanctum just from knocking people off. So..., like every other hero she largely depends on the rest of the team comp and whether it's quick play, competitive, solo, or group.

Really, that sort of engagement should be Hanzo territory, and was until the projectile change which now makes projectiles go through enemies about 5 percent of the time.

I was doing pretty good as a a D.Va's support last night as Ana. D.va would go in, harass, fly straight up and out while I was healing her from halfway across the map. Cuck a biotic grenade here and there to help drop lucio and that was about it for the other team

Since you've mentioned buying them I feel not so bad admitting that I've got about 40. I've gotten 4 of the swiss mercy ones and a few zarya, lucio, tracer, etc... but no 'murica mccree  yet, I give up.

I get 2500-3000 in a typical game - maybe 4000-4500 if I really play my ass off and the game goes long (or if there's multiple tanks on my team). What do DPS usually get?

Most of my time is on mercy/lucio since I usually end up having to choose them in QP. I'm pretty good at it but it does get boring when you're solo. It's the opposite in a group though because there is generally more team work so I get to concentrate on my mercy/lucio game. In solo QP half the time I'm thinking "I wish that useless genji/hanzo/widow weeb would just swap to lucio or mercy, heal a little bit and actually contribute so me or somebody else can tank or go dps". Not to be stuck up, but damn. I think it's really easy to be an "OK" healer and the team will still love you. It's really hard to be a great healer IMHO and the team loves you even more. For me, it sucks to think anybody could be an ok healer but they chose to be an awful genji or mei instead. Idk, I'm rambling. Anyways, if nothing else you know that you always have a place in a team since everybody forming a group loves having a couple people to rotate heals on.

I think that's perfectly reasonable, and I feel that way sometimes, too... but then, sometimes I want to play a hero I've never played before that i suck ass at (I have 23 hours in Mercy, 10 in Mei, 4 in Lucio, and 1 or less in literally everybody else, haha), and then everybody has to put up with me being the worst DPS in the world.

On escorts mission in competitive 4k is pretty easy, and around 5 is not uncommon. It comes down to medals and eliminations. I don't think healing is rewarded in xp as much as it should be, given the fact that the 5 main contributors to xp is elims, obj elims, obj time, healing, and damage.

Zenyatta is the easiest to get the most xp as a healer because he has good dmg as well. Lucio on certain maps where you can knock people off if you are good at it can yield quite a few elims, but dps is easier to get more medals, and you are awarded bonus xp for medals.

Hey, that's what quick play is for. When it just isn't working out though people stick with it. You can be a pretty bad D.Va or tracer as far as getting kills goes but still help by flanking and drawing attention. Somebody that insists on going bastion and getting shredded, going widow but can't aim, etc, each and every damn round makes it kind of bleh. I like to practice with heroes I don't usually play like everybody else but I'll do it when when we're up and switch back and forth. It's kind of infuriating when you see a guy with 50 hours play time, 40 hours as a genji, hanzo, etc, but they'll still suck on that one hero they play every game regardless of the situation.

I am usually really good with D.Va. I have had matches with her where I have well over 20 kills and zero deaths, or more kills with some deaths but kill streaks of 20 or more.  There are certain levels I can own with Bastion but most levels I suck with him or just do ok.

I also play with Soldier and Tracer.  

I am not very good with anyone else or just don't like playing with them.  I try to mix it up but I rarely use anyone but D.Va, Soldier, Tracer, or Bastion.  It kind of irritates me but I am not patient enough to try to learn other characters and get my ass kicked.

Most really competitive groups don't even like playing with people that play more than 2 or 3 heroes. I personally like being able to use just about anyone, but on the competitive side it's better to just be really good at a few than ok with everyone.

**###### PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Competitive Play Season 2

We've made some big changes to Competitive Play in anticipation of the launch of Season 2. The most noticeable change is the introduction of skill tiers, which we hope will better communicate players' relative skill levels. Competitive Play will put a greater emphasis on skill tiers over specific ratings, and as such, a player's tier will be more prominently displayed throughout the game. We've also switched the skill rating system to a 1-5000 scale to give players more detailed information about how each match affects their specific rating.

Sudden Death is also going away in Season 2. Instead, matches that are tied when the clock runs out end in a draw—though, it should be a rare occurrence. Because of this, we've made some changes to our game modes in Competitive Play to help reduce the chance that a draw can happen.

We've also made a few minor adjustments to leaver penalties, the top 500 system, and the competitive point system. Read on below to learn more!

New Assault/Escort Map: Eichenwalde

The forest has slowly begun overtaking the abandoned village of Eichenwalde, but the scars will never completely fade. During the Omnic Crisis, Eichenwalde was the site of a key battle. General Balderich von Adler took a handful of crusaders to the village in an effort to outflank the omnic army. •After being activated, Defense Matrix will begin regenerating following a 1-second delay (formerly .5 seconds)


**Developer Comments:* Defense Matrix was too efficient when tapped repeatedly, instead of being held. Now, the recovery delay matches the ability cooldown.*

Hanzo

•Hanzo will now experience a 30% decrease in speed while aiming (formerly 40%)


•Maximum projectile speed has been increased by 30%


•Arrow size has been reduced by 33%


**Developer Comments: *Hanzo has the potential to deal a lot of damage, but he can feel really inconsistent, even at a medium distance. By increasing the projectile speed, we’re extending his reliable range, making it easier to land shots without having to perfectly predict enemy movement. To compensate for the increased projectile speed, we’ve decreased the size of his arrows, meaning his shots now require a bit more accuracy. *

Mei

•Blizzard


•Projectile now pierces barriers


•Radius has been increased from 8 meters to 10 meters


**Developer Comments:* Mei has an interesting toolkit, but her ultimate often felt like it was too difficult to use effectively. Consequently, it felt weak compared to many other ultimate abilities. The freeze effect has been piercing barriers for some time now, but the projectile would still be blocked. Now, you can throw it down exactly where you want it, so it’s much easier to utilize the full radius effectively.*

McCree

•Deadeye


•Now drains over a .25-second period (instead of displaying a 50% reduction on the ultimate meter when activated and 0% when confirmed)


**Developer Comments:* If players managed to counter or avoid McCree's ultimate, it would often regenerate very quickly since only half of the ultimate charge was spent. Now, this ultimate works like every other ultimate that has a duration.*

Mercy

•Caduceus Staff


•Healing Beam


•Healing-per-second has been increased by 20%


•Resurrect


•Resurrected allies will be able to maneuver after 2.25 seconds (reduced from 3 seconds)


**Developer Comments:* Resurrection now allows teammates to jump back into the fight more quickly, which should help Mercy survive after activating her ultimate. Mercy's healing is also getting a boost to solidify her role as a strong, single-target healer.*

Genji

•Double jump no longer resets when wall climbing

•No longer deals damage to traps like Widowmaker's Venom Mine or Junkrat's Steel Trap

•The boosting of movement speed has been decreased by 30% (from a 100% increase to a 70% increase)

•If the hooked target isn't in Roadhog's line of sight when retracting the hook, they will be moved back to the position where they were originally hooked


**Developer Comments:* This change means that hooked targets will be less likely to slide along walls, potentially ending up in an odd place after they've been reeled in.*

•Bullet spread now happens more quickly when unloading fully-automatic pulse fire

**Developer Comments:* Zenyatta is in a far better place since the last update, but the strength of Orb of Discord has turned him into an almost mandatory pick. The new patch is a buggy mess. The people who played the PTR didn't catch so much shit or blizzard fucked up the live patch.



I'm finding the current competitive system to be just as fucked and meaningless as the last. Almost all of my games are ties resulting in what feels like a gigantic waste of my time as well as a stagnation of my rank.




I'm noticing a ton of people being ranked where I was placed (platinum) who just don't have the game sense or the mechanics to be playing at this level.




I don't even want to go in to the plethora of bugs involving character interactions and bugs that have existed for months still happening.




I do, however, want to mention that matches are ending 10 to 30 seconds early almost every game. Players can be on an objective and it just ends.




Nobody on the PTR actually tested this game.

what glitches are you talking about credge? Still doing my placement matches but it seems like an improvement so far. Also, with the matches ending early are you sure it isn't just the new time system? I know some don't like it, but I think it's a nice improvement. No reason you should be absolutely dominating a team on time the entire match and then have them come back from nothing. Makes for less exciting games on occasion since you don't have those massive come backs, but I don't feel robbed after a massive shit fest comeback either.

Did my first five competitive placement matches on monday - managed 1 loss and 4 wins with a varying 5- and 6-player crew. Got a couple of Mercy Plays of the Game (I never did more than a triple revive, though - a recent patch must have loosened the requirements, because I've never had one with less than a 4x revive before that, unless everyone else in the game totally stunk).

big fan of the changes they made for season 2, feels a lot more balanced. seems like most characters work out pretty good depending on the player, nice change of pace from seeing a genji and s76 every round. At higher levels though mercy has kind of fallen off in favor of zenyatta though.

For the reasons you outlined that's why zen and ana are making a big push right now. Honestly, I don't much like playing Mercy. While I am healing one person, another dies. If I try to fly to whomever needs the most healing, I die. I prefer Lucio if I am going to play a healer. Skate around close to as many team members that can hear the healing beat, spam my ghetto blaster, and hit the ultimate to counter the other team's ultimates.

It took me a while to warm up to Mercy (for a while I was autopicking Mei, because ice walls are hilarious), but I enjoy constantly twisting around and switching heal-beam targets and guardian-angeling from one group of teammates to the next. I'm trying to get better about knowing when to switch off of healing one guy before he's topped up to heal someone else -- trying to pseudolucio by constantly switching targets, haha.

It is frustrating that she's made out of tissue paper and toothpicks, and that it takes so-o-o lo-o-ong to get out her pistol to deal with a flanker. I find it a hundred times more frustrating when I'm playing lucio and someone dies and that's just it. As Mercy I can decide whether or not to bring that guy back -- if we've got two tanks I can just be like "get up!" and be confident that I'll have another rez in 30 seconds because our tanks are constantly getting shot to bits.
