I've nuked my Xbox and going to sell everything. I've got some career goals for 2016 and feel like it's a distraction. Plus the wife absolutely despises it. Fortunately Destiny is in a bad place right now which makes it easier. 60 days ago I definitely had an unhealthy relationship with the game. It's amazing to look at the social/psychological engineering that went into the game to make it as addicting as possible.

I'm not quitting, but I am taking an extended hiatus until the next big update comes along. I've grinded the ever loving shit out of Destiny, I don't think I've played a game so long in a relative short amount of time. I think the core game is alright, some of the decisions of Bungie make me wonder, but overall I've had fun and got my money's worth so far. I'm looking forward to the next DLC, but in the meantime, I've got other things to play that have my attention right now.

In front of the big door over by the Speaker.
Taikonaut - meh. Better than it was. I ain't using this over Ruin Wings for PVE or Armamentarium for PVP though. Skyburner's Annex - no. Nightstalkers generate orbs just fine on their own. Claws of Ahamkara - pretty good. Warlock melee is best melee, and getting two of them is all the better. Annoying as shit to deal with in PVP, maybe not so good in PVE. Year two helm engram, legacy gauntlet engram. |

Anyone planning to play Iron Banner Clash next week? I could really use the helm upgrade, and if the rocket launcher is decent I could use it too.

I'm going to be out of town Thursday morning - Sunday afternoon, so I'll be grinding it hard Tues-Wed night and Sun-Mon night. I made rank 3, 4, and 5 in one night last month, though, so I'm sure it's doable.

Yay Iron Lagger is here. I dumped a whole mag from a Paleocontact into someone's face and didn't kill them. Had a couple lag teleporters here and there too. Overall though it wasn't bad, and I've definitely seen worse.
Getting highest overall score for the weekly bounty is going to be tough. I already have the kill streaks and double kills done though. I was 100ish pts shy of first place earlier. I might've gotten first if I were playing Sunbreaker instead of Defender. No super kills makes me sad, but WoL + shotgun makes it easier to get the special weapon kills if you suck at sniping. Maybe I'll get lucky and land in first place before it's over. |

In the tower, by the crucible guys.
Ruin Wings - yup. You should own a set of these if you have a titan or you're ever thinking of making one. More heavy ammo is always a good thing, they can be a little inconsistent at times, but they're worth using more often than not. Probably one of the better if not the best PVE titan exotic in the game. Third Man - judgment call. Arc blade IMO is primarily a PVP thing in the current content, most folks are using nightstalker for PVE. It'll get you another swipe or two on your arc blade, that can sometimes mean the difference between chasing someone down and getting the kill or them getting away. Nemesis - judgment call. Everyone should have a keeper of the pack exotic eventually, but if you don't have the coins, or don't play a lot of 3v3 PVP, or just don't feel like buying it, no huge loss. Truth - it's a good launcher, especially for PVP. The tracking is relentless, has prox detonation, three in the tube, high velocity, everything you want in a PVP launcher. PVE, probably not so much. Rockets ain't what they used to be in PVE, mostly because Gjallarhorn ain't around anymore destroying everything. Legacy heavy, in case you wants a Gjallarhorn or something. |

Well, I was out of town over the weekend and missed out on a Truth from Xur. Last night I was on the receiving end of a couple in Iron Banner though.
Before I left town I had the game of my life and got the "win with top score" thing done for the weekly IB bounty. 23 kills and 7 deaths. I don't know what happened, but everything just went my way that game. 5 kills on a single super (sunbreaker), at least 8-9 kill streak (super + Thunderlord), and a triple kill with a primary (Hung Jury) all in one game. Got to rank 3 in IB last night and will have the weeklys done today to get to rank 5 pretty fast. So far the only drop I've gotten is a 304 helm (big improvement from the 293 I was using). I would really like a 300+ sniper with a decent pvp roll tonight, but I'm not getting my hopes up. |
|
[#14]
Don't get too hyped over the Iron Banner sniper. It does have a lot of aim assist, but it's a low impact/high ROF type sniper which is cool in 6v6 crucible, but if you play any 3v3 PVP, you're gonna want something with higher impact.
I'd almost go so far as to say spend your legendary marks with the cryptarch in the hopes of getting a Shortgaze/snap shot 1000 Yard Stare, and you'd have the best all around PVP sniper in the game. |

I played Iron Banner yesterday just for the hell of it, got the rocket launcher up to 313 already with some creative infusion, and got a 313 Haakons Hatchet, or however you spell it.. Every time Pantheon came around, the team I was on just got steamrolled. Tryhards with snipers just take the fun out of the game on that map. I could barely get around a corner, and would get headshot immediately. Oh well, I got to level 5, so I'm done with that bs. Clash was a pretty good game mode.

Has about the same aim assist, fire rate and impact, it's just a matter of getting one with a scope you like. I really don't like the Omolon snipers in PVP since they generally have very low aim assist, but they certainly get the job done. Remember too that light level doesn't matter in normal crucible, and as long as you're around 290ish or higher, you're fine in most events where level advantage is enabled. I think they recommend like 270 for Iron Banner and 300 or 310 for Trials. I'm only like 295 light for 6v6 PVP sometimes because I like using Praedyth's Timepiece on the smaller maps, and I ain't giving anything up really to the competition. Even with my normal year two PVP stuff, I'm only 310-312ish depending on the character. Quoted: Rank 5 package was a 318 machine gun. I'm up to 305 now. Unless you're a completionist or you hate yourself like I do, I wouldn't get too hung up on it. 305 is fine to do just about anything in the game. And besides, whenever the next update hits this spring, all of our current light levels are going out the window again anyways. |

Got to Rank 5 on my titan in about 2 hours, might have had some medallions and bounties from the last IB to help. Ended up with a 320 Bretomart's Stand machine gun out of the Rank 5 package from salad bar himself. First 320 anything other than completing challenge modes in the raid.

I didn't get the IB sniper last week, but last night I got a 1000 Yard Stare with Ambush, Lift Support (meh), Injection Mold, and Unflinching. It's no Short Gaze + Hidden Hand "god roll", but I think it'll do.

Life support is a great bonus on a primary, or maybe a sidearm or a shotgun. On a sniper rifle, I dunno. I guess depending on how often it procs, it could have its moments in the raid, like killing the boomer knights during totems.

In the the tower, in the corner over by the speaker.
Mk44 Stand Asides - nope. Gravititon Forfeit - sure. Especially if you're good with shadestep, you can do some amazing things with this in PVP. And being able to use shadestep and keen scout at the same time is really good. But for PVE, I like Ahamkara Grasps better. Nothing Manacles - sure. Not as good as they were I don't think, but two scatter grenades that track are still pretty good. Hawkmoon - judgment call. Hand cannons ain't what they were, but if you wanted to use one, this is probably one of the better ones in the game. Legacy primary engram. |
|
[#36]
For a n00b who started in year 2, what year 1 primaries would be worth getting just for the sake of messing around with them? Am I correct that you can upgrade the ones with year 2 versions with legendary marks? I might buy a couple engrams just to see what I get.
|
|
[#37]
Thorn is still very strong in PVP.
Bad Juju is a good one to have if you don't have it, and it carries over into year two. Red Death and Suros Regime are good all around, um, The Last Word if you play crucible. |
|
[#38]
Suros Regime and Bad Juju. I already had the year 2 Suros Regime, but still a decent pair. Bad Juju seems fun - haven't messed with a full auto pulse rifle yet. Maybe I can get more coins saved up before tomorrow night. I was kinda hoping for a Thorn or Last Word.
|
|
[#39]
Bad Juju is a great PVE weapon and it's pretty serious at close to mid range in PVP, although at mid range and beyond, you'll probably get outgunned by the Hawksaw/PDX style pulses or Nirwen's Mercy, and you'll definitely lose to someone with decent aim and a Mida Multitool.
Speaking of which, if you don't have one, buy another engram or two if you've got the coins and try for the Mida. It's a fantastic weapon overall as well. |
|
[#40]
Yeah, I hate that I missed the year 2 Mida when Xur had it. I don't have any more coins, and I'm not sure if I can farm another 31 in the next 36 hours. Who knows when Xur will have a primary engram again.

Use Three of Coins if you haven't. Farm the strike playlist and pop a Three of Coins every three or four strikes.

In the tower hanger, all the way in the back of the bar downstairs.
Skullfort - has its moments, but overall, no. The only time IMO this thing is really useful is during the Golgorath fight, where you can almost constantly apply melting point to the boss. But most people are only staying in the pit for one or two orbs max anyways. Symbiote - eh, meh. This was the year one gunslinger exotic, problem is the activation timer for golden gun has been nerfed. In PVP I have a hard time finding four people to shoot before the timer expires, and in PVE Celestial Nighthawk is probably a better choice. Praxic Fire - meh. This was the year one sunsinger exotic to have before the Ram came along. It'll get you maybe one or two more grenades during radiance, but let's be honest, 98% of sunsingers out there use radiance for self res, not to spam grenades. Year two and legacy helm engrams. |

Achlyophage Symbiote timer is terrible. They ruined such an awesome exotic.

Anyone else done any PvP with the new matchmaking changes? It's less laggy, but the competition can be quite inconsistent. A couple games I'll get rocked and end with a 0.3-0.4 KD, then I'll have a couple games where I end with a 2-3 KD. Earlier this week I had the worst KD I've had in months AND the best KD I've ever had in the same night. I've been leveling a hunter by pretty much doing nothing but PvP. Level 21 now and liking Blade Dancer a lot more than I expected.

Level 21 now and liking Blade Dancer a lot more than I expected. View Quote No, but trials was like that when they emphasized connection over skill. You could start off a fresh ticket against a team of killers who have gone flawless several times. Bladedancer is probably my favorite hunter subclass to PVP. Great passive talents, you could make an argument that they've got the best melee attack in the game, decent grenades, blink, and in a close range fight, arc blade/hungering blade is super lethal and very hard to beat. Once a bladedancer starts slashing, unless you've got nova bomb or fist of havoc to counter with, you're probably gonna die. |
|
[#49]
I started a hunter mainly because I got tired of getting blink striked and arc bladed on my titan. I don't really like throwing knife, the gunslinger grenades (haven't unlocked trip mines yet), or golden gun. I feel like Bladedancer is just better all the way around in PvP.
I feel like hunters have a way more interesting "neutral game" than Titans in PvP and after the hammer nerf probably have the best supers too. I do enjoy playing Defender in some of the objective game modes though. My warlock is only level 3, but I hate Sunsingers in PvP almost as much as I hated Bladedancers. |
|
[#50]
Incendiary grenades have been buffed and are awesome now. Maybe a little too awesome, but they are amazing and probably the best grenade available for their subclasses. It takes a little figuring and learning on how to place them, but one that hits for full damage is devastating. They'll do enough damage to kill a max armor sunsinger or titan if they hit right with the burning damage over time. And they'll easily kill anything with lower armor, like a hunter.
The best slaying super in the game right now IMO is stormtrance. Stormtrance, with superconductor and transcendence, running around with your arms outstretched like a maniac frying everything in sight. Only drawback is if they see you from a distance you're relatively easy to kill, but if you get in range and start making hits with stormtrance it's basically game over. I've wiped out entire teams twice over with stormtrance. My favorite PVP class overall though is probably striker titan. Grenades, speed, good passives with headstrong or transfusion, melee sucks but whatever, one of the better if not the best close range super in the game. |
