THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT In general, I'm looking for a more realistic FPS. Please don't point me toward the Clancy games either as I'd be more entertained cutting myself and watching it heal. |

Its an excellent balance, imo. Give it a shot. Also; all the things you asked are server settings. Some servers have them, some dont. You can filter the server browser for what you want, exactly. |

Is BF3 totally realistic .... NO, but compared to COD its a HUGE step forward... Sure it has its quirks, but its definitely a decent game..

FPS...and realistic...
No, BF3 ain't a whole lot better, unless you consider guys running around with AA-12s, with exploding buckshot, like it's the hand of god wiping out entire corridors full of the enemy. Realistic FPS? I dunno what to tell you on that one, man. BF3 might be a little better I guess, but it still has some shithead players that ruin the game. |

I think it's pretty dead now, but Red Orchestra makes Battlefield look like Call of Duty.

Unlike MW3, you can feel/tell that BF3 was really nerfed to run on consoles, things just seem so much clunkier than on PC, and I don't have a PC to play it on yet. Someday, I hope. |

Does BF3 have ground war only servers? - Yes, they're called Infantry serves, however not many people play this mode. There are some maps that have no vehicles (Metro) or only ground vehicles (IFV/Transports) though. You can try to stick to those if you don't want to play with air vehicles. Do they have force action retarded respawns? - Yes and no. In Conquest you can spawn in your teams spawn (furthest from objectives), your squad mate (who might be surrounded by enemy) or the objectives (which might be surrounded by enemy). In Rush you have your team spawn, and squad mates, same stuff applies as Conquest. In Team Deathmatch the spawns are randomized, and you can't spawn on squad mates (which is dumb...it said TEAM deathmatch). Before the latest patch the random spawning was horrible, it's slightly better now. Regardless of the game mode though, it seems to me that BF3 just doesn't do a great job of spawning you away from an enemy. I've spawned directly in front of an enemy, ALOT. I will say it's better than MW2 though. One more frustrating thing is that your team mates can revive you after you die, but often times this is just so they get the points from reviving you. You'll come back alive just to see a bunch of tracers come flying at your face, that is if the game spawns you facing the right direction. Do they use unrealistic bullshit like quickscoping? - Not really. On consoles there is some aim assist, however I've never noticed it when I could use some assistance, normally I only notice it when someone runs past me as I shoot "pulling" my aim away from my primary target. 12 gauge frag rounds was pretty bad, but that got fixed. Unfortunately there is a new glitch, the M26 DART. They say it will be fixed, but basically it's a "super weapon" especially in hardcore mode. Once that's fixed, I think they did a really good job balancing the primary and secondary weapons, and making them handle somewhat realistic. I think they could still use some tweaking with the vehicles and missile launchers though. Overall BF seems to be a more serious shooter than COD but still keeps it fun by not going to the ARMA extreme realism. |

PC: Arma2 or Arma3, otherwise:
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Pros: -Has a high learning curve for most. -No going Rambo for the most part... unless you want to die quick. -No respawns or HUD in Hardcore mode. -Huge open worlds, open-ended missions that are up to you how to approach, bullet drop (no wind though...). -Smartest enemy AI of any FPS. -Can be purchased cheap, codes for 1 DLC, $5 for the other. Cons: -Has a high learning curve for most. -Not as many people playing it (but enough to always find a game, especially once you make friend-connections). -Some various game glitches (no cheat-glitches though, just oddities). I wouldn't call any console FPS game realistic, but it is the closest to realistic FPS out there of any console game. Avoid OF: Red River.... no open worlds, linear gameplay - just like every other console FPS. I have a ton of fun playing OF:DR. |

You'll never really get a "realistic" war game. However BF3 is worlds better than the COD series. I think it has raised the bar in comparison to the COD series.
Sure you deal with some shitheads but I don't hear the 10 year old screaming the whole time with his mom in the background yelling at him to come to dinner. It's worlds fucking better. Now that I think about it, you can only hear your squad members? Maybe there is a setting but I don't hear people talk shit as much. I think the guns have more realism to them. For example the guns have bullet drop unlike COD where the bullet infinitly flys straight in the direction you shoot. Unless you get a chest or head shot most sniper rifles are not one shot kills, which I think they just changed this and unless you are in hardcore mode you have to get head/chest shots. I think the best part of the game is the vehicles. I've really been using the helicopters and fighter jets lately. I find it to be a nice change of pace from running and gunning and waiting for the person sitting in a corner to shoot me as I run past. I don't come across many campers in this game either. |
