Afterwork_Ninja, the fact that you've been plugged into this thread from the beginning is impressive. You just motivated me to restart a round of P90X today.

Time for some german potato soup!

The perception of peer pressure on my part keeps me motivated. I'd hope if you guys don't see me post for a while you will bust my chops about it. Dan_P and some of the other guys have been here quite a while too. It's just a matter of sticking with it. It's like my old Kenpo instructor used to say, "A black belt is nothing more than a white belt who didn't quit."

I'm in pretty good shape. I can keep up with the pro fighters that I train with, but I should be lighter than I am right now. I've still down about 30 pounds from where I started, but my problem has always been diet. I am getting serious about that now as well as taking a few supplements to maximize my workouts and recovery. I've still got 30 pounds to go and my goal is to drop it by Christmas.

I'm looking forward to the mixture of P90X, Insanity, MMA and Yoga. I think I have settled on a routine that will work out well for me. One of these days I'll have to try P90X2 if I can find it on the cheap.

P90X2 - Core

No HR monitor today. It doesn't play nice with a lot of the Core moves.

Last week was kind of a hit/miss week as my other half was out of town and I had a lot of crap around the house to do. Did a couple P90X2 workouts and a couple of my own free-weight/pullup workouts. This week we are back on track.

Here's me when I started:

This is after P90X. I admit I didn't follow the diet very carefully.

I took before pics a little over a year ago. Maybe someday I'll get around to taking after pics.

Just restarted P90X last night. Decided it was time for another 90 day round. I did P90X for all of 2011 (4 times), then at the beginning of 2012 did P90X2. After finishing P90X2 I did a combo of P90X, P90X2, and weights. FWIW, I am 45, 5'8" and pretty much always stay between 165-170 pounds.

What are your impressions of P90X vs. P90X2?

P90X focuses more on the major muscle groups and P90X2 focuses on balance and performance through connecting muscle groups. I liked them both, but I prefer P90X. P90X seemed tougher but that may just be because the workouts are longer. P90X2 will make you feel like a doofus until you get your balance muscles worked up. I am glad I bought it and did it, but it is unlikely I will redo an entire round of P90X2. Instead, I will substitute some of the workouts from P90X2 into my daily P90X routine. i.e., P90X2 yoga or plyo in place of P90X yoga or plyo on occasion. I also will probably flip flop between P90X abs and P90X2 abs.

Edit to add that I really don't like the X2 stretch with the foam roller. I thought it was about worthless.

Last night's Jiu-Jitsu lesson focused on keeping all of your weight on your opponent. I paired up with my buddy Big George, who weighs in at 320 pounds. I'm a hurting unit from that combined with the soreness from Chest and Back and Insanity Cardio Abs I did the other day.

It's this one that did me in:

Try getting up higher on the toes of your front leg and straighten your back leg more. Try to make your back heel touch the floor. I've also gone to using some 15 lb dumbbells for some more upper body work.

I'll try that, this week is the second transition week, I'll hit your recommendation next leg/back day.

Well, I don't have EXACT P90x before and after pics, but here's what I've got.

This is where I started. Mid-2010, 226lbs.

6 months later, Jan 2011, after losing 20lbs from just cardio on the elliptical. Ugh...still not pretty.

8 months after that, end of July 2011, after adding weights, dropping another 20lbs, and got to here, 176lbs.

Started P90x Jan 1, 2012. Finished that and did another round of half workouts just for maintenance.
This is the newest pic from a month ago, May 2012, 170lbs.

There's not a TON of difference between the last two pics, but I am a lot stronger. I doubled my pullups, increased from curling 25lb to 40lbs, and lost a bit of bodyfat. You can see it a little around the biceps, more definition. Also I have abs! Can't really see them much, but under the loose skin from losing 50lbs they are like the segments of a Hershey bar! Today I am starting Insanity. Wanting to drop some more bodyfat. Currently I'm about 13-14% on a good day. Like to get down about 10%. Hope I don't kill myself.

Merciful Jeebus, the fit test killed me. I can barely walk. I didn't like Plyo in P90x, what have I gotten myself into?

Fit Test results:
Switch Kicks - 64

Power Knees - 100ish? I lost count around 60 when my life started to flash before my eyes
Power Jumps - 24
Globe Jumps - 7
Suicide Jumps - 15
Push-Up Jacks - 34

I found this post of mine a couple of pages back. I really do like these for Insanity.

I do Insanity on these while wearing wrestling shoes. No joint problems so far.

I have 12 of them put together in the middle of my living room. They used to slide around so I duct taped the seams and superglued the hook side of some velcro to the bottom of the corners. Now they stay put on the carpet.

I like the pad idea, but what do you do with them when you're not using them? My wife would not let me leave it on the floor, haha.

Did you take longer breaks in the first fit test? I had to pause it after each move for at least a minute, and after the Suicide Jumps I was just panting for at least 3 extra minutes, haha.
