Lifted like this myself for a few years until I moved to Kentucky. Something about lifting in an environment like that puts you in a mindset you'll not get at a nice clean gym with all of the bells and whistles. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Pretty jealous of all these setups, hope to build my own lifting place within the next year. My gym is a 20 minute drive one way, which isn't a lot, but I'd like to have the option of lifting at home.

Since the carpet is coming out eventually I am not really worried about it but I don't want to mess up the concrete underneath. View Quote I basically did this: Attached File To level, I just ripped the joists at different heights. My garage has about 1 1/2" slope over 8'. For sound/vibration each well has layers of carpet padding, Walmart gym flooring and horse mats. Bouncy, but quiet. If level is an issue, it's easier to rip your 2x4s at the angle you need rather than like I had to. If noise and impact aren't concerns then 2 layers of ply and a layer of horse mat works fine. If you do drop a lot, be ready for those 2x4 joists to become toothpicks especially at 12" or 18" spacing. Couple tips; don't glue. It doesn't do anything but create a PITA when you want to change it in 6 months. Careful with the lifting surface, don't sand it smooth or put some slick stain on it, you'll end up doing the splits instead of a squat or jerk some day. |

Big time, big lifts. http://i67.tinypic.com/f0au4w.jpg Number 3 is currently under construction. We moved into a house with a very sad looking pool house. I've ripped up the floor and ordered a kickass epoxy finish for it, but I'm going to have to grind the floor first due to the waterproofing membrane. So unfortunately, I've been without a gym for 3 months now. You guys who have built the lifting platforms, do you think that you could get away with anchoring a Rogue R-3 rack to that vice the floor? Obviously you'd have to change a bunch of the supports to get a good anchoring point. That would really help us when we move, so I don't have to cut off the anchors for a third time. ETA: @desertw0lf, it looks like you did that. How did you anchor your rack? View Quote @JAG2955 |
