5.80 / 545.44 -- Had a great run on the beach as long as I stayed close to the water where the sand was packed down. :)

I was planning on 8 tonight, but got called off the treadmill for work. I may finish it up later if I wrap up in time.

26.2 / 549.4

I ran the Lincoln marathon this morning.  It was way hotter than forecast and many things went wrong.  I did, however, PR by 57 minutes and got a pretty big monkey off my back.

Also, I now have 1013 miles since I got my Forerunner 235 on July 31st last year.

Shorter races from now on.

Thanks

My previous marathon was 6 years ago, I was less than prepared.

I learned a lot building up for this.  I think 1/2 Marathons are my sweet spot.

I am gonna do a half on my own one morning in the next week or so. I want to see how I do at my own pace without the crowds. Afterwards I am going to start upping my distance to get myself ready for a full in December.

Great Job!

26.2 miles is a much bigger undertaking than I knew, a real achievement.

I also started some simple strength training today, focusing on core (including glutes & hamstrings): 4 sets of 15x dumbbell swings, 1 minute planks, 10x 10 second shoulder bridges with the dumbbell. I only had a 25 lb weight, haven't been able to get anything heavier yet.

Seems like there are a lot of different explanations of Lactate Threshold. What are your thought on it?

I view it as the effort or pace above which you produce lactate faster than your body can clear it. Running faster than this level eventually causes enough buildup of metabolization byproducts that your legs start to burn and you have to slow down.

Running at or just below this pace stresses your body and prompts adaptations that increase your ability to clear lactate and these other chemicals. Eventually you're able to run at faster and faster paces before you reach that tipping point.

For example, last summer I started doing these types of runs, and my pace was about 6:50 per mile. By fall I was running 6 miles at about 6:20 per mile, but the effort felt the same as when I first started.
