This thread is an inspiration. I may join in next year, I ran all last year until September then laid off due to hunting season. I started back in February and have been running as much as I can since then. I plan to do a few 5ks over the next few weeks. I am going to run my first 10k in May. I did the same race last year with a 45lb frame pack on. I only ran the last mile of it then though, walked the rest. I am at 102 miles for the year. I am way behind to catch up for this year, but I am going to keep after it anyway.

Was gonna go for a 1/2 on the tread while watching Sicaro, wife called. She is negotiating her comp and duties and wanted to meet for lunch...I did an even 6 so I could go meet her.

I did the math, I am a daily .48m behind. I have to make this a priority..more so.

I just want the weather to improve so I can run outside.  So bored with the treadmill at this point.  Unfortunately there was snow on the ground this morning and up to 5 inches predicted for tomorrow.

This week is suffering for sure--buddy got married and was out of town for a few days and had my anniversary so spent the day with the wife instead.  Also have two triathlons coming up in 2 and 3 weeks so I need to spend more time on the bike or in the pool.  As of last week:

Well...two weeks ago I logged my first week with 0 miles in a long time (that wasn't due to recovery, injury, or extended vacation).  Last week was small because I've been gearing up for a couple triathlons.  The first was today and during the race I actually set a 5K PR by 27 seconds.  I haven't done any short course running races in a LONG time, so I'm somewhat curious to see what I could do in a 5K road race without the swimming or biking first.  Second triathlon is next weekend and then I can get focused on running more again.

Join the Arfcom Garmin Connect group posted earlier in this thread!  What kind of training plan are you doing/races are you training for?  Usually only see that kind of volume on something like Pfitz 70/18

Thanks! The last 13 miles or so were largely into a 15-20 mph wind, which certainly slowed everyone down (my original goal was 3:30).

I'm planning on working on speed and strength this summer, and I think I'll have a legitimate chance to BQ at the Memorial next year.

Nice...what plan are you using?  I used one of Higdon's for my first two and I just never felt great race day.  Was thinking about trying Hanson's plan.

Distance-wise I was using my own blend of the Intermediate plan from my local running club (Landrunners) and the Higdon Intermediate 2 plan.

Effort-wise, I train by heart rate. I use the Karvonen method, doing the vast majority of my runs at <70%, with one run per week at about 80-85%. I'll likely add in a shorter run with intervals in the 90-95% range soon.

I highly recommend training by heart rate (Heart Rate Training for the Compleat Idiot by John Parker, Jr. is fantastic, typo intentional), and fully credit it with being able to run as far and as fast as I can after only 10 months of running.

I have a hip flexor strain.  Been advised not to run for at least another week from now but even that might not be long enough.  Doesn't seem to be getting better.

What type of therapy are you doing? Just not running, or are you stretching, foam rolling...?

Just be sure to take it easy when you do start back so you don't aggravate it again.

I'm stretching and doing the things I can like calf presses and upper body / core exercises.  It's really hard to ice it effectively since it's up in my groin / hip area.  I definitely intend to take it easier once I get back to running.  I pushed way too hard; trying to get faster and faster when the goal (1000 miles) isn't time-based.  I was stupid.

I've done a terrible job at getting out regularly since I got back from vacation.  Over the past 3 weeks since we got back from Mexico I think I've spend 10 of the 21 days away from home.  Nothing on the calendar as of now so now I can really get back into training hard.  Going to start gearing up and training hard for my first Ironman 70.3 in July.
