First of all, don't let kaik influence you, he has a girlie squat. Secondly, you need to try something for 6 months, so pick something and go all in. Or don't bother. My program had a recovery day on Thursday where I did meathead stuff, and a total rest day on Sunday . CF is building your engine. It's not easy and there are easier ways to gain muscle and strength. Check out the CF wod thread where I posted my progress for about the last year to get an idea of what it did for me progress and strength wise. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

This thread is relative to my interest. I started crossfit this week as well. I already have done well with a straight lifting/light cardio routine. Did my first crossfit class on tuesday after lifting back muscles, so of course the WOD incorporated lots of dead lifts. After that night i was gassed ill admit it. Did the next day after doing shoulder, so of course the WOD was clean and shoulder presses. I couldn't do a third day in a row so i took Thursday off. Today my GF wanted to go and see what it was like and the WOD incorporated partner work. Chest to bar pull up and such. We of course had to scale but made it through, im really good at rowing so i tried to take more rowing than her to let her catch her breath. She seemed to like it and we weren't completely gassed so we stopped at a walking track to keep momentum going. I'm very leery of maneuvers that look like they will blow me out completely so my focus will be on form before i start to get into heavier weights. Learning what is what and the acronyms, symbols and such is confusing as well but everyone is more than willing to help. I am still on the fence about whether i should keep my normal lifting routine and supplement it with crossfit. Some of the things im trying to figure out is frequency of crossfit, like every day, three times a week and such. I've been lifting weight steadily 4x a week for the last year. I've lost a ton of fat and built quite a bit of muscle. Went from benching 95 to 245x4 the other night. I feel the crossfit will help accelerate my weight loss. |

I am doing the crossfit for three reasons:
1) Washboard Abs. 2) Jamie. 3) 1 and 2 are really the same. |

There is always going to be hate on crossfit and rightfully so. You look at the injuries from this year's cf gamesgames, it's no wonder it gets the bad rap it does.
But with that said, Pat McNamara has a nice tid bit of information on the subject and I'm paraphrasing, "if you're getting hurt in the gym, you're an idiot." He endorses a crossfit-ish type workout program. He is stronger than alot of us, some of yall combined, and is in tremendous shape at the age of 50 something. When someone that strong and in that good of shape speaks, I kind of need to shut the fuck up, put my ego aside and listen to what they say as they might have a touch more insight and experience. |

I have it on good authority from my wife, and her gaggle circle of stay at home moms with too much time on their hands, that Barre 3 is the new hotness.
OP, you should try that instead. Incidentally, when I was in Seattle I used to walk by the Barre 3 studio on my way to and from work. It was all I could do not to stop and stare. |

I could watch that all day long! My buddy's wife went to college on a dance scholarship and preformed in NYC. She teaches several classes per day of that and after her first baby girl, she was back into pre baby form in about 4 weeks. |

Might explain a few things actually Crap, I need to get this all figured out. I don't do CF, but I don't talk about it either. However, I do squats. Should I start talking about CF and doing some jumping jacks or something? What if I quit wearing my old nasty sweat stained Stihl hat and wear a cool one from Rouge, but still don't do CF and still don't talk about it? I ate some paleo mcmuffins this morning. At least I'm going to call them paleo because I heard that's also going to give me a better squat. |

I called them one time and they changed an order literally that had already been boxed. They opened the box, switched out my stuff and sent it out, same day. |

Did you PR with Ira?
Or was it Jamie? I can't keep your silly naming convention straight. |

This thread is relevant to me. I filled out the paperwork to join crossfit last night.
I will be 49 in a month. I have been lifting for 2 years, weight is down 50lbs, strength is way up. I have gone from not being able to run 50 feet, to doing a 5K in 27:28. I hope I can hang with these people and don't look stupid. |

There is no training to do well at CF other than doing CF. So nobody is going to expect you to jump in like you've already been doing it. Start off scaling everything and ease your way into it. It's a commitment and Rome wasn't built in a day. You will do well at the cardio portions since you've been running. Carry that breathing over to the other movements as well. Rarely do you want to go balls to the wall. Study up on the rower. There's more to it than just jumping on it. |

Well, another day, another WOD.
