I have no experience with hoodia, so I'm sorry I can't be of any help there. But... PO caffeine, even though it's a CNS stimulant, works well. You still get stomach pangs but they don't make you think "hunger". During a cut I'm
always watching the clock until my next meal, but after 200-400mg a day (divided doses, q6-8h), I literally don't care when I eat next. As I type this, I've been forgetting about the cottage cheese next to me whereas I'm normally ravenous. In this sense, be mindful of intake and its quality.
As a stimulant, caffeine doesn't really have a side-effect or risk profile like ephedra or cocaine. It actually has several protective qualities (Alzheimer's /Parkinson's protection, stable or lower BP long term).
It has quick onset, 5-7 hours of relatively consistent bioavailability, and dosing is easy to manage compared to beverages. It's best taken on an empty stomach or at least without CHO (as it tends to blunt the ergogenic effect, OTOH it promotes high/faster glycogen storage so it can be used strategically). CHO anytime after absorption seems fine for me though. You might diurese a bit in the first 1-2 hours, but that's it. No delitirious effects.
