I train Bjj 4-5 times a week and work 50-70 hours a week ... Not a whole lot of free time, there is a small weight took at my grappling club so I've been doing a quick squat abd bench routine 2 times a week.

Better than nothin?  Worthless ? Stupid??

Opinions ?

I was thinking of throwing in dead lifts ?

Just trying to gain some muscle I'm like 6 1 , 190 so pretty darn skinny

IMO if you are benching you should also row to maintain some semblence of balance.

Also adding overhead presses and chins/pullups would be a pretty good meat and potatoes workout.

DL is always a yes.

For BJJ, if you absolutely only have time for two lifts, I'd do deads instead of squats. Pulling strength and grip strength are going to pay off more than pure leg power.

But best case would be make time for the big 3 plus chins.

Ditch direct ab work. Heavy squats, deads and OHP will work your core plenty.

Weights twice a week?  Two workouts, A and B.

A
Squat
Bench
Kroc rows

B
Dead
OHP or Klokov press
Chins

That's a good split.

But if all you have time for is one exercise. Do the squats.

For a grappling discipline? If it absolutely came down to one, I'd do squat one day, dead the other.

That hits all the major muscle groups. I don't know much about grappling but I would imagine it's full body so you would want to be strong all over.

Wasn't arguing with the split, I agree it's solid. Part I disagreed with was the squat if you only have time for one.

But I'm kinda unclear on the OP's goal. If it's to bulk up in general I agree with squats then, they'll get you growing. if he's going after bang for the buck lifts for his fighting style, I think deads would be tough to beat.

Squats work the core more overall along with making you have a solid base. I think they just barely beat deads.
