I decided today to get a little more serious about how many calories I am consuming.  I haven't counted shit until now.  Just trying to keep my BF somewhat in check without loosing any muscle gains.  It really is all about the gains.  I am 5'9" and my weight fluctuates about 7 pounds.  On any given morning I will weight 160 to 167 and anywhere in between.  I'm trying to stay at 160 while packing on some lean mass.
Just counted up my calories today.
consumed approx  1441 calories and 142 grams of protein.
this was a little more clean than my typical intake.......due to the fact that I was actually recording wtf I was consuming.
do you think this is enough calories for an ex fat man on the 5/3/1 band wagon?

how big are your and how much fuel do you consume?

I counted one day and it was up around 5-6k.

I need to ditch 50 pounds :/

1400 isn't enough

No way is that enough.

I'm 5'9" and 185 and follow a moderately high volume oly program and a little conditioning. Hanging in probably around 12% bodyfat, maybe a bit less.

I eat 2800-3200 cals a day easy.

I am limited to 1850 calories a day. I have been on this regime for almost five months and have lost 64 lbs. and eight inches off the waist so far. I walk three days a week at three miles a day. Takes me about 40-45 minutes.

I'm averaging 1600 - 1800.
I actually upped my calories from 1220 - 1500 due to no energy for workouts.

A bunch. I get hungry.

Too many. Putting on weight I don't want. Gotta stop snacking and eating crap at the ER between runs.

Now I get around 2000 per day or so.  Last year I was doing 4000 to 5000 and not even thinking about it.  Makes a big difference once you watch it.  Dinner tonight was about 600 and I ate turkey w/gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, peas and had fruit cocktail for desert.  Damned sight different from two Whoppers and a shake.

I'm 5'8" and eat around 2400, which maintains me at around 150lbs. You should eat a lot more, IMO.

Do you think I'm being counter productive?  Now that I think about it I have been having to reset and re evaluate my lifting due to recovery issues.  Maybe I'm just breaking myself down and not rebuilding.

Yes.

You're not getting enough to recover.

1400? You should be losing weight at that amount.

My range is typically between 1800 and 2600 depending in the days activity and what my goals are.

When I'm lifting heavy and or just trying to put on muscle then my range is 2600-3600.

I'm 6'1" and I'd guess I should be down around 194 or so after a few weeks of cutting.

5'10", 215lbs

about 1300-1500 cal/day

Run about 10-15 miles/week, weight lifting on Tuesdays and Swimming on Thursdays.

Going to have to start mixing things up as I can't quite crack the 200lbs mark.

I ate a clean 2200 calories and about 170 grams of protein.
I didn't feel like my eyes were bugging out of my head today.
I'm having a hard time accepting the concept of eating more and getting bigger.

You definitely aren't getting enough calories.

I'm slowly bulking at the moment, and at 6'/192 I shoot for about 3500-4000 a day.  It takes me about two weeks to put on a pound.
Basic high weight low rep.  Bench, deads, squats are the focal point.  Also some strongman work and accessory moves.  4x per week.

10-12 calories per pound of desired body weight should be a good start for weight loss. 12-15 to maintain.

I'm going to start out consuming 2400 clean calories a day and hit around 170grams of protein and log my weight then adjust accordingly.

The interwebs says to keeps weight gain to 1 pound every two weeks.  What is your concensus?

I'm 5'9" 185lbs.  I have the metabolism of a sloth and I can gain weight/fat very easy so I have to keep my diet in check.  I'm eating about 1k cal more per day than you.   Good news, you can eat!

Started eating between 2200-2400 calories daily and I feel awesome.  I've been killing it in my routine.  It's only been not even a week but I've been recovering at a metabolically jacked rate.  Well.......that is a metabolically charged rate compared to killing myself and eating like an insecure 14 year old girl.  My weight has not increased so far.  I feel that I've missed out on some huge gains.  I guess having to "cut" for about 15 months so you can have a somewhat human looking body can psychologically mind fuck you into fearing calories.

I am eating or at least trying to eat 1gr of protein per body weight. That takes 6 meals per day to do it but seriously works. Alot of fish, potatoes, white rice, chicken, cheese, beef, and greens. I average about 4k per day and I am loosing weight and body fat but maintaining strength and muscle.  I haven't felt this good in awhile.

Of course some of it has to do with hcg,e-blocker, and about to start on testosterone again after the wife gets pregnant again.

I'm 43, 6'3" and currently 260lbs.  Down 17 lbs in the last 6 weeks since I got back on my bicycle and started riding seriously.  Right now I'm eating around 2700 cal a day and riding 150 miles a week.  Weight is melting off at an absurd rate.

Adjust as needed while maintaining a healthy caloric intake.

Its very simple. Weight loss should be gradual, not a roller-coaster.

I'm 6'0" and weigh 208 presently. My wife says I'm Manorexic diet wise. Its easy to gain a ton of weight by bulking, or to kill 10lbs in a week by cutting carbs and sugar. Water weighs a ton too, and its easy to get rid of that as well.

I used to tell overweight people to forget the scale. It becomes your master. Pick a REASONABLE goal for your body figure and try to get that instead. A guy I'm helping right now was super happy for the first month due to weight loss. Then he started gaining back and was losing focus. People forget that you will gain weight as you gain muscle unless you are trying to look like a woman.

Not enough. I counted for a couple weeks and consistently came in around 1200-1500, which would explain why I have a hell of a time putting on weight.

I'm 6'1 175
