How in the hell are you guys scoring these deals on roadbikes? I have yet to see anything on CL that seemed like a great deal.

Keep checking a lot and you'll get lucky at some point-had our sights on a very clean Lemond with 10 speed 105 but the seller never replied, even after renewing his posting. Obligatory bike porn pic of awesome score-went out for a test ride including a short 1/4 mile hill with an 8%, I put up a PR on Strava cranking 325W and my noob flyweight son that plays a shitload of video games beat me by three bike lengths. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd4/crurifragium/P_20170428_1957421_zps1fjgsro4.jpg View Quote |

Mallorca FTW!!!!!
For those of you uninformed, Mallorca is THE cycling center of the universe. We just picked up our rental Cervelos today and rode them 15 miles back to our house/apartment and then did a 30 mile shake down ride to get used to the bikes and the time zone. 57 second video recap of the ride-https://www.relive.cc/view/964736551 Strava - https://www.strava.com/activities/964736551 |

Today's ride was to Sa Colobra. We climbed 2,100 feet in the first 11 miles: The climb on the way to the climb.
We finished the day with 6,500 feet vertical and 52 miles. Damn the 28.8 inter web connection here because we can't upload any pics. The Relive video doesn't show any pics because we can't upload them. The Relive video does show the terrain really well. Today's Mallorca ride was a little disappointing because we didn't get to do the climb we wanted. The ride was supposed to be an out & back @ 33 miles each way with a 5 mile climb up to an old monastery Sant Salvador.
I had a tire blowout, cut sidewall, and it took us a bit off course to find a bike shop, bang on the back door because it was Siesta, and get a new tire. It was still a great day on the bike with 76 miles and 2,300 ft vertical. Strava link - https://www.strava.com/activities/970751875 |

Today's ride was a tough one - 66 miles and 7,100 ft vertical. We rode through the town of Fornalutx which is said to be the most beautiful village in all of Spain. I believe it is.
At the top of the mountain we got whacked by unbelievable headwinds. After 6 plus miles at an average grade of 6.9% we hit a 1% grade downhill - the winds were so strong I was in my granny gear, pedaling my ass off down hill and going @ 6 miles an hour! I got the regular ELEMNT because I need bifocals! I'm digging it so far. All of my friends have Garmins and none of them can find their way out of a parking lot with them. It's really user friendly with the the phone app. I did have some problems syncing with the lousy wifi here. The phone app does suck data if you run it while you ride. I've only had it for 2 weeks but I think it is better than the Garmin for navigating. Sorry for the giant paragraph, I'll write a review in a few weeks.

Do to previous joint injuries to the knees and hips, I'm looking for exercise that's less impact on them and have interest in adventure riding and gravel grinding. Some one suggested a Salsa Fargo. Would it be worth while to go for the gx model or is there something else I should look at? This would be my first real bike out side the ones I had as a kid.

Got whupped and dropped ....buddy of mine says like lead group was averaging 24mph...Freaking Cat5!s ...me and one of the other old guys just took turns pulling each other
ETA: Couple things ...I looked up the Strava figures of some of those guys in the lead pack...Most of the top guys that had power meters on their bikes were only putting down 150-180 watts to move 24mph..I was putting down nearly 200watts at 163lbs to do 19.8mph on the first lap...I knew it was good to stay in the pack but didn't know it was that good! Results had me as DNF. The guy who was listed in the spot that I came in had a jersey number 1 away from mine..I'm thinking the official made a mistake and its not too late to rectify it. If that's the case I finished 36/51 on my first CAt5 race... |

Natchez Trace Century in Ridgeland MS.
16.9mph/avg and 5:51minutes my fastest century yet. 2346feet of total elevation change over the entire ride. Rode with a couple guys that I've ridden with several times now and we seem to work well together. It's those last 20 miles...... Was a beautiful day in the saddle. |

Looking for bike recommendation. Budget is $1500. I can get a discount on the Diamondback Sync'r Pro to make it $1455 from $2300msrp. Also looking at Orbea Alma or Loki bikes. I'm 6'0 tall so need a decent sized frame. Will be on moderate trails.

Past half way towards my 2000mile goal for the year.
Right on track given that I have a lot of work travel in June and won't get as many miles in. I don't have any more centuries scheduled till October so I'd like to lock some in for Aug/Sep. Total side note - why the hell do I keep getting stuck on hills in Zwift when I do training sessions. I hate working by dick off, being covered in sweat and having a really good training sessions.....then ending up with a 8mph avg speed at the end :( |

After a couple of weeks of weather I made it out for a ride today. Finally getting bike dialed in and didn't manage to bust any body parts this time. Even managed to climb a few sections I walked before. Actually managed to get in quite a bit more miles than my normal ride, enough though it kicked my ass.
Stupid bike computer says 3.15 miles. Lying POS! |

True, however my Garmin decided to stop recording halfway through my ride. It was a heck of a lot closer to ten miles than 3. Seriously, that's surprising, my edge 520 has been flawless so far, what unit you got? For anyone that rides in the woods, get a wireless speed sensor for the garmin or the data is just garbage under the trees. And roll out the wheel/tire it's on for accuracy - auto is garbage too. |

Guys I rode my friend's 29 inch trek, took it to michigan and probably put 40 miles on it in the various lake towns. Fell in love! I'm 6'4 235lbs what's the best bang for the buck mountain bike for trail riding to just bike trails and around town. Quick google search and i found a Motobecane Fantom 29 X4 for 499.00. 21 inch frame. Would that be a good buy? I'd like to buy new.

21.9 miles 17mph/avg.
Giving a 28c tire a try. Just got back from a 1.5 week business trip so only had time to change out back wheel (front wheel still 25c). Also the new wheel has an ultegra 11-29 cassette. Chose a road that I know is very broken blacktop/asphalt and has some gravel/sand in a lot of spots. The setup *seemed* more betterer. Will be interesting to see once I go completely to 28c all the way round. Def noticed the smaller cassette in the back because my 25c wheel has some 30 something or other as the largest cog so I tend to use that as my get-out-of-jail card on hills. With the new wheel/cassette I'll suspect I'll have to switch from the big ring to small more carefully on the hills. Def tired after 1.5 week work trip and not drinking enough water the past few days. Took a lot of rest breaks and felt tired the entire ride. Stupid work wearing me out and effecting my bike riding. |

At nearly 400 lbs, my butt, hands and feet are the limitation, rather than legs, lungs and heart. The shifting truly sucks so until I can upgrade to a new wheel and modern drivetrain, I'm riding it as a single-speed. It makes for a good workout when I'm riding uphill or into the wind but I easily spin out on downhills. 1984 Trek frameset with a mix of 1983, 1984, 1989, 1995 and new parts. It's a true Frankenbike!
