Berger Gold Medal
Federal Premium is now loading high-performance Berger bullets, known among competitors on the Precision Rifle Series circuit, into its own line of Gold Medal rifle ammunition. The new Gold Medal Berger loads use a Berger Juggernaut OTM, Hybrid OTM or BT target bullet design that features a high ballistic coefficient in order to give shooters flatter trajectories, less wind drift and improved long-range accuracy. Federal is loading these rounds into the company's brass and is using Gold Medal match primers and a proprietary powder to provide shooters with accurate factory loads. These new rounds are also designed to run under SAAMI specifications for overall bullet length. To start, four calibers will be offered in the new lineup. First, a .223 Rem. target load features a 73-grain Berger BT Target bullet and retails at a suggested price of $32.95. Next, the company offers a 6.5 Grendel load featuring a 130-grain Berger Hybrid OTM bullet and retails at a suggested price of $34.95. Federal also offers a 6.5 Creedmoor load that also uses a 130-grain Hybrid OTM bullet, and that also retails at a suggested price of $34.95. Finally, the company offers a .308 Win. option that features a 185-grain Berger Juggernaut OTM bullet. The suggested retail price on the .308 Win. is also $34.95. |

What happened to the Gold Medal 260 load?
The rumor mill last year had this as a sure thing. |

First Lapua CM brass and now FGMM 6.5 CM with Bergers? These are great days were living in bros!
Im a little miffed at the price considering Hornady and Prime prices, but more choices are definitely better. |

6.5CM getting GMM that makes my day. Thank you for loading VLD's rather than SMK's Federal.

I would like to try some of all available. My ammo source has none at this time. Anybody else?? ETA - Gold Medal BJ? |

Damn that is pricey, but I am willing to try the .223 and .308 as it's all I shoot.

Unless someone drops some good cheap 260 match grade ammo...I'm thinking it's about to die.
Odd since gas guns are much simpler in 260 as it's a 308 case. |

View Quote Part of the reason I sold my 260 bolt gun and kept the 6.5. Price difference per box average $15 and 6.5 has a greater selection and production rate. If you don't reload or have a good amount of disposable income for ammo the 260 makes no sense. |

Hopefully these loads will be in addition to their regular SMK loads? I don't want to lose the 308 175smk fgmm... that stuff is nice and very reasonably priced.
The FGMM 6.5CM load sounds awesome however! |

I'm not so sure...but that is the logic. |

If you were at SHOT Show this year, you would see one blatantly obvious trend:
The new wave of 6.5mm is finally solidified in the market. Everybody is making 6.5 Creedmoor rifles. There are so many new loads in 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel, and .260 Remington, that I have a hard time keeping track of them all. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, Federal releases 4 new factory loads for 6.5 Grendel (brining them to 41 factory loads), one of which wasn't even seen at SHOT, but is already available through Midway and others, the 90gr TNT through the American Eagle line. There is also a PIP solicitation for .260 Remington drop-on upper for the M110 Sniper System. Several units have already been using it on their SR25s and other guns. |

View Quote I don't get it, either. 6.5 CM is a great cartridge, but is not worth ditching the .260 you already have, unless, maybe, you are a serious long-range competitor. And that is a small niche. I've even heard some of those folks say the CM vs .260 difference is negligible. The reason I can see 'the industry' ditching the .260 for, however, is that it's a way of getting us to buy new rifles. Screw 'em; I'll just reload. |

Anyone shooting the 185 juggernaut? If so, please post chrono data if you have it.

Curious as to why 130gr over 140s in the 6.5??

The Fed 142gr GMM .260 is the best shooting commercial ammo through my rifle, and street price when I find it is about $5 less per box than the Prime.
