Looking into a decent tripod set up to test out rimfire guns at the indoor and outdoor ranges as well as some sage-rat hunting.

I have plenty of shooting sticks but would like something a little more sturdy to really test stuff out on without having to hall in a shooting bench with a leadsled.

Typically the indoor ranges around here go out to 25yrds and allow all types of pistols and rifles up to 50 BMG but they don't have benches to shoot from so you can rent a jimmy rigged leadslead set up for 5-10 bucks which still doesn't work great.  Or you can try to shoot off your bipod with a folding chair (no rear rest)

If I go out in the field to target shoot I really would like not to haul out a bench, Leadsled, chair etc...

So which (or another I haven't listed) would you choose?

The PRS is just a Slik (Sunpak) camera tripod with a ball head and their rifle rest screwed to a QD plate. Doesn't seem worth the bank. You could build a similar rest yourself and put a 1/4-20 threaded insert in the bottom and screw any camera tripod's QD plate to it.  I have a similar tripod by Sunpak with the pistol grip ball head I paid $8 for at the thrift store another $10 bought an extra QD plate and I'm in business.

I was going to order the prs tripod last week but out of stock. Did some searching and ended up with the silk sprint 150 tripod and making my own craddle similar to the prs but not as nice. Ended up costing 70 bux and a few mins of my time. The craddle i copied from berz i think it was on youtube. (just look up diy tripo craddle) if interested of course. Heres a pick from inside my shop of the tripod/ghetto saddle.

Thanks, I'll do the same thing. Looks easy, and the SLIK is pretty cheap.
How is the adjustability on that model? Does it adjust for cant at all?

Thanks!! Yea its a simple job, literally took 15 mins. But yea it has a ball head so you can adjust anyway you like. You can also add a bar which isnt picture and it will get up to damn near 6ft or so. It is fully adjustable although the legs cant take much loading without bowing at full height. It can handle prone to standing with out issue. I may be wrong but I believe it is the same legs as the prs tripod just a different ball head. Oh it also has to bubble levels to help get you level, there are not the best just a heads up.

I'm going to get the same one on Amazon for about the same price (free shipping).
I'll just make my own cradle like in the video. I've got one half done already.

Work gave me a 250.00 gift card to a sportsmans warehouse.

Any idea how Vanguard tripods stack up to the Silks? (obviously they are not Manfrotto but are they comparable)?

Nice set up! Any tripod is gonna have some flex unless it's one for video and then it's a matter of weight..mine is carbon fiber so it's light and has some flex as well. You can hang a sandbag from the vertical to help settle it. Watching people shoot centerfire from a tripod, they all move a bit, it's about getting that shot off! Nice work though!

Next rest I build will be from a piece or aluminum channel with a 1/4-20 hole drilled and tapped in the bottom for the QR plate and some foam glued in with Spray 90

Ended up picking up a Vanguard VEO 235ab fro ~120.00

It had a decent weight rating (I think it is rated up to 13lbs)

Tons of adjustability

The head was removable and had a post also to make it taller if I needed.

Need to post pictures up.

Definitely happy with how it turned out

This SLIK bipod from PRS is the SLIK 150 sold on Amazon for $50.

I would still order one of their matching plates and saddles, but you can save $25 getting the bipod from Amazon.

Here is their plate: http://www.precisionriflesolutions.com/apps/webstore/products/show/5513059

Here is the saddle: http://www.precisionriflesolutions.com/apps/webstore/products/show/838250

You could skip their plate and use the one that comes with the SLIK tripod on Amazon.

Pretty sure the PRS rest is just a length of 6160 3"or 4" aluminum channel with a threaded hole in the bottom, some closed cell foam glued in and a fitted cordura cover. Could be made for $25 or less, minus the cover.
