I want a lighter scope for my Remington 700 and figured I'd move the Razor HD II 3-18X to another rifle. I've been reading good things about the Burris XTRs and was wondering what you all think of them. I'm specifically looking at the 3-15x model. I read that the glass is better than the Viper PST line. Should I fo?

I have the Burris XTR II 4-20x50 w/scr MOA reticle. Its an awesome scope for the money. I have it on my 338LM. 34mm tube is great. Hard to go back to my 30mm tube on my 308. Am saving up for another one for my 308. Check with whittakers guns. They were the least expensive than anyone else by almost 200 bucks. Burris just released the non illumination version to those scopes.

I run one on a 556 AR, recently I was using it on my 6.5cm RPR.

For the money, I think it a great scope. It's better than my PST was, but under my Razor HD gen 1. Which is exactly the price point.

Thanks for the detailed response. I want something better than my PSTs, but less than my DMR II or Razor HD II in cost. I think the XTR II is the way to go.

PST Gen 2 has better glass than Burris XTRII, having tried the Gen 2 and owning the Burris XTRII. Bad CA on Burris.

Chromatic Aberration

I'd do some research on the the XTRII or find one to view before purchasing. Mechanically they are solid by most accounts, but the optical performance seems to be its weakness.

I have noticed some CA, but only in the outer edges.

It never bothers me unless I look for it, the rest of the time I never notice it.

Thanks, just starting the venture into long range shooting.  Have an AR10 with VX-R 4-12x40.  Shot out to 500 Sat with no problems - thinking about a little more magnification so this is
something else to learn about.
