Just bought a Razor Gen 1 5-20. Its going on a 300WM. I am now wondering if I should have gotten something with higher end magnification. I can get out to about 1000 yards max on my land, but that's pushing it. Top end of my budget for this project is $1600 on glass. I came in just under for $1500 and change for the scope and switch view. Scope will be in later this week.

This is my first super long range rig. What do you guys think? I know some is preference. But I wanted the best quality glass I could swing.

What is your intended target? If it's anything over a 12" gong, 20x will be plenty.

If you have high levels of mirage, you won't even use 20x. That scope will serve you well.

That's plenty for most targets.
If you're expecting to see bullet holes nothing will work at that range.
Anything more than that is not necessary on a clear day, but can be useful.
And if there is mirage more than that is wasted.

That's plenty of magnification for 1000 yards. I typical shoot at 12-14 times on my razor gen 2.

If you're in a benchrest competition, and 0.1" in group size is the difference between first place and tenth place, you don't have enough magnification.

For any other type of shooting, you have more than enough.

All you really need to see is splash from your misses. I could see .308 splash just fine with a 10x max scope, you'll be fine. I bet you won't even turn it to 20x because of mirage.

Sounds like I did OK then. I appreciate the feedback. I debated on a PST and save some coin, but all I have read is that the step up to the Razor is well worth it. I just could not go over 1600 right now and in order to go the next step up, it was a significant price increase.

The 5-20 will serve you well. I've used mine out past 1200yds and could make out 10" and 6" plates.

Hell yeah.  I started out on an old straight 10X Leupold MK4.  Blurry as fuck, but it would get you out there.
