I know this isn't specifically about precision rifles, but i think you guys will have the answers.

I have an older Rem Model 7 with the 3 scope base screws instead of the now current 4 holes.   I need a new base and I can't find one exactly like I want that says it will fit the Mod 7 with 3 holes.   I THINK i read that a Rem 700 SHORT action scope base will fit but I can not confirm.  

Can anyone confirm that a Remington 700 short action scope base fit a Rem Model 7 3 screw action?    Or can anyone at least point me to a dimensioned drawing that has the distances between the screw holes so I can compare it to what I have.   And also confirm that the rear of the action is lower than the front of the action so the base will be thicker.

BTW, I am looking to put a longer scope on the rifle so I am looking for something like this to extend the scope rings a bit further apart:

I saw that and might have to go that route,but I really wanted something a little longer if possible.   What Iwould really like the the longer one made out of steel.    I want to use one of Burris Signature rings and I think steel on steel would be better.

That would be exactly what I want (steel with the cutout) if it was about 1.5" longer in the front with 2-4 more cross slots.  I do like the Warne stuff though....its some quality stuff.
