Do any retailers sell Remington 700 barreled actions  (as in, no stock, possibly even no barrel) to anyone's knowledge? Friend of mine asked me and I honestly had no idea.

I briefly looked at Brownells and Sinclair but nothing doing in that time.

Thanks in advance.

Brownells

In stock.

Usually with an actual shop, these have to be ordered as they hardly stock them unless it's a specialty shop.

Look up LRK Mechanical. Tell Matt AR15.com sent you.

On the new in box market brownells is the only place I ever saw.  On the secondary market they're around EE or snipers hide.  I've seen other brand receivers pop up like FN SPR actions at CDNN.

Compare the price of a box store M700 to a new boxed action.  They can be pretty close and you can use or sell unneeded parts to defray the cost.  Sadly it's hard to sell some stuff.  Take off Remington barrels are seldom wanted for prices worth messing with.

The only barreled action I noticed is Howa brand at PTG.

CAn one still buy a savage action?    I always figured one of those is perfect for a non lathe owner.

I bought four FN SPR actions once and they kind of spoiled me.  The Howas are well made.  My BIL has had a 7mm mag Howa for a long time.  He's a meat deer hunter and doesn't care but it's easily a sub moa rifle.

In the past savage sold actions. Northland Shooter Supply would be a good place to look(thinks that's the name it's been a while)

Northwest Action Works does nice trued up 700 barreled actions with your choice of caliber in a Krieger barrel. They are under $1300 I think.

I think for that money just about any quality smith could do that

Right, as long as you supply the action. They are priced right and have the components ready to go in a barreled action package.

When I had a bolt gun built a couple years ago it was cheaper to buy an actual 700 from Walmart than to buy the standalone action.  You can catch them for under $400 from time to time.

But will a Remage barrel screw into a trued receiver?  I am thinking the barrel threads may have been cut in the trued receiver?

I'm really confused. When they true the threads do they change them to another thread??

From my understanding they change them slightly making them inline with the bolt raceway. When the smith threads the barrel it's sized to the over sized action threads.

yes they do sell rem 700 actions only. I was looking into them but for the price you can buy a used 700 or a adl and then sell the stock and barrel for the price that you pay for just the action. I went with a adl that Cabela's had on sale a few months ago with a $75 mail in rebate.

You can usually buy an entire rifle (ADL) for around the same price or less than just a receiver.

You might get lucky and find a rifle for sale for a great price. They tend to hold their value.

I bought a SS Receiver only from Buds for my upcoming Remage project.

Then ordered a Bolt assembly with small firing pin and mini M16 extractor from PTG.

PTG 308 bolt face (with small firing pin) compared  to stock Remington 700 bolt.

Bought a stainless Remington tube PTG bolt spun up a green mountain barrel for a nice 308. The bolt fits tighter and smooth as silk with lapped lugs.

Nicely done.  I bought a complete 223 action minus barrel for a Remage project.  The firing pin hole is for a large primer and I get lots of primer flow so I am getting ready to purchase a PTG bolt setup with the small firing pin.  It is unfortunate that Remington doesn't sell the 223 receiver but since I am feeding from a magazine, I don't think it will matter anyway.

Thank you.

The firing pin hole of Rem 700 308 and 223 are the same.

Middle- 308, right- 223

If you are going to change the bolt to PTG, the headspace may change. It will not be a problem if you reload. I am currently using the PTG bolt in my Rem 700-308  (still could not decide between 6mm BR and 6.5X47 L  Remage built) and I have to bump the shoulder to 0.010 (normal is .001-.002) to properly chamber a round. A factory ammo will not fit.

The short action Rem 700 receiver is standard, you only change the bolt/bolt face to change caliber. Except for a single shot receiver, all will accept a magazine.

The ptg bolt lugs vary somewhat you might bottom out on the bolt nose cut out .

I have done this.  I picked up a Wal-Mart Remington 700 for $369 in 223 rem for the short action.  I kept the action and bolt and sold off all the leftover parts.  In the end I had about $200 in the bolt and action.
