Move the target out to 200 yards and shoot a group using your 100 yard zero then measure the average drop in inches. Then move the target out to 300 yards and shoot another group using your 100 yard zero and again measure the average drop in inches. Now use your ballistics calculator to enter various velocities that will give you a drop chart that models your measured drops. This isn't a substitute for a chronograph but it will get you a velocity number close enough to play with... |

The warm weather yesterday (70) put me off by .1-.2mils on the vertical.
100y was at .1mil 300y was at 1.2mil 500y was at 2.9mil Made windage adjustments as needed. Had hits on the 4" swinger at 500, was stoked. Mostly stayed on the 8"-12" swingers at 500y. 120 a-max screams. Eta: if you need it in MOA Attached File |

At a local shop near me they have a 6.5 CM gen 2 and a .308 gen 2.
Price on either is 1349.99 not including tax. Is that the going price on these? Im not in a hurry to buy. Should I hold out for lower prices. I see a few sitting on Gun Broker for 1299 with no takers. |

Hi guys,
I'm looking into possibly getting into the RPR game. I'm deciding between this and the Remington 700 Magpul, although I want both. Is it worth it getting this rifle in .308? One thing I'm considering is whether I get a bolt gun in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, or even .260. The thing that worries me about the 6.5 is the short barrel life, 2000-2500 rounds, which is about 1/3 of .308. Also, are we really looking at $1350 - $1500 for the Gen 2 RPR? Some sellers had them for $1000 when they first came out (Gen 1) with talk of sub-$1000 deals to come. This increase makes it less likely for me to go for the RPR at this point in time. |

The 6.5 CM and .260 will have about the same barrel life as they have very similar pressures and velocities. If you plan on reaching out further than 700-800 yards the 6.5 CM or .260 will be a lot easier to get on target (especially if you are new to long range shooting). |

Yeah, it took me several times and plenty of f-bombs before I got the hang of it. Ruger's CS said they want the rifle back at the mothership so it can be looked at. Hope the turn around time isn't too long.

Well i'm about to shoot my first match with the RPR, actually my first match period.
I weighed my RPR last night and holy shit is this thing heavy. 18.4 lbs with my heavy ass YHM can. Might get rid of that for the match though. Apparently there are 9 stages, 45 rds min and 60 rds max. Ranges from 75 yds to 1500 yds. I'm not new to long range shooting, problem is I always just shoot prone. Thought about practicing with some saw horses, sitting, off hand etc. I'm excited. Any tips? Anyone shooting their RPR in any competitions? |

I cleaned it with a nylon brush and some m pro 7 cleaner. Pushed a couple patches out and hit the range. I shot 60 times brought it home pushed a few patches down it with some mpro 7 cleaner again and put it away. It likely won't get cleaned now until 400 or so rounds. I shoot suppressed with a qd brake muzzle device. They get pretty carboned up by the crown so I'll watch for that.
My break in procedure. Not saying it's the right way. But it's what I do. |

Might be an odd idea, but what are the chances of turning the RPR into a true lightweight bolt gun? Going to brainstorm something real quick.
Ruger's 24" barreled precision rifles weigh 172.8 oz, per their website. Their CS told me the 24" barrels weigh 69.6 oz with the brake. Website lists their handguard at 12.7 oz. No idea how much the MSR stock weighs. Replacement barrel would weigh about 27 oz, replacement handguard about 8 oz. Saves 47.3 oz, or almost 3 lbs. American Built Arms USS looks perfect for this and only weighs 9.5 oz, probably saves what, 5-10 oz? Going more extreme, are there any parts of the RPR that can be milled down or skeletonized? |

It was a warm 28 outside I left about 7:45 and there were folks rolling in for a handgun class - but the rifle lines were clear. I'll be out there again next Saturday should you like to join. We need to have a SE member / ARF shoot. ETA: it shot the 143's and 120's great. Much more pronounced strike on the plates with the 143's but.....I hit the small swingers better with the 120's, even accounting for the shift in POI due to load differences. Have some of the new 140g American gunner rounds on order, if they do well it will be my go to load as it's under $1 per squeeze. |
