Matches are normally on Sundays. Preceding Saturdays are when we have things like the Range Card Clinic, scope tuning clinics, DOPE clinics and such.
Matches are held at Avenal Gun Club (Avenalgunclub.com). This is a PRIVATE range with very limited membership. We open it up for non-members for the competitions that we hold there. Match Info: Classes: Obstacle or Prone in: .223rem, .308win or "other". Targets: At least 2MOA steel engaged from 200yrds to 900yrds. 1 shot each target. 50 total shots for score. Course: 8 stages spread across a VIGOROUS 1 mile hike (each way). Steep hills, some slippery terrain, talc fine dirt, >600ft of up and down steep climbs spread over the course. Prone Class: Shoots from bipod or bags from the ground (except stage 1 which is done from a bench) at the designated firing position. Obstacle Class: Shoots from the obstacles using bags, bipods, slings, etc... Stage 1 is fired prone. Cost: Match fees are $20 cash only (no CC machine because no phones). Donations are encouraged but not required to support expanding the course, adding obstacles and adding/repairing targets. Winds are unreadable at this course. Course record for .223 is 37 of 50 hits. It'll be very hot. August 20 - Swap meet day, bring ice and water and shorts and maybe an ambulance. October 22 - It will be burning hot or freezing cold or both. December 17 - It will be really cold and then room temperature. Matches generally start at 8am. We used to start at 9 but it gets hot really early in the day so it's often best to finish as early as possible.
