Starting in November 2015 Pikes Peak Practical Shooters and the Pueblo West Sportsmans Assn will begin hosting Precision Rimfire matches on fourth Sundays.

Right now we have four matches scheduled.  Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb.  This is the normal Tactical Rifle match weekend, but we don't shoot TR Matches on this weekend during the Winter months.

So... to keep us shooting and as lots of people have asked to turn on the rimfire matches again, here we go.

Two rifle divisions.  BOLT/MANUAL ACTION and SEMI

22 Long Rifle only.  No 22 mag or 17s.  They tear up our steel.

All shooting prone or bench.  Up to the shooter.  You can even shoot off sticks/packs/standing/ect.  You can build your own shooting challenge based on your training needs.

Any flavor of optics allowed.  Suppressors allowed and encouraged.

No time limits or bonus points for finishing fast.

The close target will be 50-60 yards.  Far target will be 220 yards.  Target shapes and sizes will vary from month to month.  All targets are steel biathlon type just like we have used at numerous NSSF Rimfire Challenge and Chevy Truck Sportsmans Team Challenge matches.  Plan on 2-3 MOA sized targets at all ranges.

Minimum round count will be 75-80, max will be 100.  This will allow you to show up with two boxes of ammo and complete the match.

Depending on how many people show up will drive the need for additional matches.  Right now we also have access to 8 dates in 2015.

As always, eye protection is 100% required.

Set up will start at 8:00 and shooting will start at 10:00.

$15

Here are a few of the targets we will be using.  Ignore target placement in photo.  All targets will be up against the backstop.  When you hit the white target it falls leaving daylight.  I just stood these back up to show what they look like.  Target bank #1 targets are 5.5 inches, target bank#2 has 2 and 4 inch plates.  Expect many different shapes and sizes.

Taking lessons learned from previous matches, here is how things will go as of now.

There will be 8 total target arrays with a total of 76 targets. Seven of the arrays have ten targets and the close (50 meters) array has six. All eight arrays will be numbered with a big sign.

Four of the arrays will be at a known distance. 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters.

The remaining arrays will be at various distances to ensure any misses impact a berm.

Four shooters will be shooting at a time. They will engage their assigned two arrays each while the on deck shooters spot and keep score.

You have one shot per target. If you miss, it is a lost target and you can not reengage it.

There are no time limits for your 20 shots, but don't drag your feet or playful verbal banter will ensue. If you are a delicate flower, your feelings might get hurt.

As soon as you finish shooting, you clear your rifle, put it away and wait for others to finish shooting. As soon as everyone is done the shooters head downrange to set and paint their own targets while the on deck shooters get ready.

With the new arrays/plan, we will not have to reset any targets in the middle of a string.

If the plan does not work, we can change/tweak it. I am not married to any plan as this is the first match.

As always, eye protection is 100% required and there is no gun handling of any type while people are down range.

At this past Sundays match the tough targets were at 50 and 200 meters.  At 50 there was a 3/4 inch round plate and a 1x1x1 triangle.  At 200 there was a 2 inch round plate.

The triangle got hit a lot but the 2 inch plate at 200 was only hit a handful of times.

The wind kicked up and it took 3.2 mils of wind to connect at 200.

18 people were not afraid to show up and do it.

You did really well last weekend.  The PRS learning curve is a vertical straight line.  And shooting rimfires at 220 yards isn't easy.

The PRS match had the mover out at 80 yards.  Good times.  Lots of different obstacles to shoot from and lots of different way to skin a cat on all.

Results can be found here.

While I do appreciate the kind words, I got smoked! I need to tweak the scope a bit and get some bigger rings ordered. Definitely a whole new game and can't wait to learn more about PRS from you guys. Really appreciate the tips and positions advice - so much to learn!
