I'm picking up a 455 to use as a trainer for my match rifle to be able to shoot more. What have you guys used on rimfire? My match rifle has a Bushnell XRS with the G2 tree reticle in it, I'd like something like that. I'd also like to stay around the $300 range if at all possible. Which leads me to the Athlon Midas BTR, Primary Arms ACSS R Grid, and Cabelas Covenant. It seems like the Athlon's are hit or miss, some love them and some say they are junk. Havent seen much on the other two.
Thoughts? |

Nightforce
Or US Optics (Grin. I put an old Tasco 6-24x on my surplus 40x and my 452 varmint has a Nikon 4-12x. ) |

That looks good. I'm thinking now of repurposing an SWFA 3-15 for the time being and see how it does.

I'm running an Athlon Argos, it's a bit over your budget at about 350 but probably within range.
I like the argos cause it focuses down as short as about 25 feet, which is awesome for a .22. My vortex wouldn't focus under 50 yards, so being able to focus down that close is nice for a scope that goes out that far too. |

I got it at the Costco.

Is the Athlon usable at max magnification or does it lose a lot of clarity? I'm really thinking about getting the 6-24 version but I might be interested in going with higher power.

I use a SWFA 10X on top of a DIP 20MOA rail. Works great out to 300.
