@hollowhandle

Ok, pics *should* be fixed.  LMK if you see them or if the comments don't jive with the "new" pics.  I tried to line them up from +1.5 years ago or so.....

Thanks,

This thread is now just over 7 years old, I figured it was time to update with some new pics to show how the concrete shooting bench and it's slab have fared over the years.  All of the following pics were taken in the last hour.

Other than some debris on the slab, looks perfectly fine to me:

And despite what some predicted, the slab hasn't moved or cracked over the +7 years:

And the tabletop hasn't degraded or cracked or anything else; looks perfectly functional to me:

100 range with tabletop:

I stand corrected. I figured the slab would suffer some freeze thaw damage. But it looks good.

Funny you should mention freeze-thaw:  I took those pics around 25-30 degrees.  About as cold as it gets here.

Thank-forking-God!!!!

So I decided to install a 24/7 tamping project! Basically, the 12 concrete blocks that will form the columns for the tabletop, plus some wood and my tractor ballast weight on top.

And I am not happy with the way the top of the tabletop turned out!!! I had made a concerted effort to ensure the tabletop concrete form was a smooth as possible, using a visqueen/plastic sheet between some (formerly) very smooth plywood surface. Not Happy!

Concrete sanding pads are pretty cheap- $25-40 for an assorted pack. Next time pour on a sheet of Melamine, painters tape the framing edges pinching the tape down, and a nice coat of WD40 wipe down before concrete.

Thanks OP.  We taxed your bench top idea for one of the GA HTF ranges.  Knocked out 5 tops in short order.

Well, it's been a little bit over 9 years since I did this project, time to update with some pics!

Yesterday getting ready to sight in my Sig M18 with its Sig Romeo 1 Pro red dot sight and then do some fun shooting with my new dueling tree and steel plate targets:

Pic including the pad and concrete shooting bench:

Closeup of the pad; still no cracks and/or movement even with last winter's weeklong 0-10 degree freezing event   :

Some dirt stains from where leaves collect:

Tabletop hasn't changed:

Thanks for looking!
