Thanks!  I plan on submitting for the SPR and .22 with optic divisions in a few weeks or shortly after Christmas depending on how the holidays play out.

1st submission:

SPR, Spey Rod, LaRue Predatobr 16" 5.56, Burris signature select 3-12, Handloaded 77gr SMK over Varget, Groups: 1.583, 1.010, 1.081, 1.148, .879 = Average 1.1402 - .224 = .9161/1.047=.8751

Range set up:
Rear bag and 4x6

If we are bagging on bags - then this bag which holds the rifle in a V is not cool, to my understanding.

No, it is not cool.

No worries. I'll find a squeeze bag and reshoot.

I can't really tell how big it is from the pic but since it's not a rest or bag I'll go ahead and let it go. Can you post in the proper format?

Now updated with missing info at the bottom of the post added.

Wrong rifle.... That Sako isn't a 16" gas gun.

Good shooting though.

Patience my friend. I already stated I'll have more submissions after the holidays. The KAC shoots just as good at 100 yds so it wouldn't really prove much. I'll still post the 100yd submission but the plan is to also post some groups shot past 600 at various ranges to silence the non believers in the other thread...

Nice Shooting! You obviously have a very good skill set, and that load is tuned 110% for that rifle.

Keep it up!

So I have been called out to verify my claim of a Rainier match grade barrel  shooting easily 1 MOA. with hand loads...... first off ....I am not an arm chair commando making wild claims....  second Rainier guarantees 1 MOA on this barrel, and third I was not making any claims on myself, but my rifle.  someone was asking about barrels and I gave my experience. I will probably recommend Rainier again because I am fully impressed with the results. Anyway I am happy with my rifle and know what it can do and that is all that counts at the end of the day for me... perhaps if I have some time in the near future I will take some target time and post the results for you 13ers... haha.. just kidding.

People of Arfcom, I'm going to attempt the 1 MOA challenge, hopefully tomorrow.  I was going to use this rear bag, but I wanted to make sure if it was acceptable first.

What say you?  Is this legal to use with the challenge?  I added the M1 clip for scale, if it helps.

Is any bag acceptable?
When I did it with my SPR I thought the rules were NO rear support.
that's how I shot it.
Need to shoot my 260 challenge target, maybe this weekend.

This is a challenge but don't be afraid to try it out and post, every possible rifle style has been listed with a category and a distance. It's all in good fun and to be honest about your abilities.

With that in mind here are the rules.

1. ONE sheet of paper, 8.5”x11” preferred and it MUST HAVE ALL 5 targets.

Meaning 1 sheet of paper with FIVE targets. NO INDIVIDUAL TARGETS. THEY WILL NOT COUNT.

2. On that 1 sheet of paper with 5 targets you shoot 5 groups of 5 shots each. (In one day)

3. Each group is measured OUTSIDE GREASE RING TO OUTSIDE GREASE RING with calipers (preferred) or tape rule in inches. Then subtract the diameter of one bullet IE if your shooting a .223 and your 5 shot group measures 1.13" you will subtract 0.224" to get a group of 0.906". If you are shooting a .22lr you will subtract 0.223", for a 308 you will subtract 0.308" (Remember- the more precise your measurement the better)

Some common measurements:
.172" - .17 HMR
.223" - .22 Short, Long, Long Rifle
.224" - .223 Remington, .22 WMR, .22 Hornet
.243" - .243 Winchester
.284" - 7mm-08 Remington, 7mm Mag
.308" - .308 Winchester, .30-06, .300 Mag
.311" - 7.62x39 Soviet, .303 British
.338" - .338 Mag

4. NO MECHANICAL REST/SLED, NO VICE OR SIMILAR DEVICE THAT SUPPORTS THE ENITRE RIFLE, NO SHOOTING JACKETS, NO STRAPPING THE GUN INTO ANYTHING, NO LARGE REAR SANDBAG ** OR REST. SHOOTER MUST HAVE POSITIVE CONTROL OF RIFLE.

THE POINT IS TO SEE HOW GOOD YOU SHOOT, NOT HOW WELL YOU CAN MOUNT IT IN A MACHINE.

5. OK TO USE sandbag, rest, ruck, bipod, rock with a hat, sling etc. on forearm of the rifle.

**Will be OK to use a small rear sandbag (ie: sand sock or squeeze bag) or bean bag that must require constant hand pressure to maintain hold on target.

IE. Can NOT sandbag gun in place. Shooter must maintain positive control of rifle. No formed or V-shaped rests/bags

Some approved bags

Triad Red Tac

Triad Wedgie

CrossTac Squeeze bag

Accuracy First shooting bag

6. Shooting position is up to you, sitting, standing, prone.

7. Posting:

1st picture of target set at the range you are shooting. If you are shooting more than one rifle at the same range using the same pic is okay.

2nd picture with 5 groups of 5 shots each, next to them write down group size.

3rd picture with calipers (or tape rule) left in place over BEST group.

4th picture of rifle and shooting setup (ie. Sandbag, prone and so on). Post all4 pics and also type in the post your 5 group sizes and what the average is. IE. .99”, 1.5”, 1.5”, 1.5”, 1.5” add them up, equals 6.99” and divide by five. So 6.99/5 = 1.398”

You can use the MOA formula, either way I will check the math and post the MOA on the result list.

For those of you who would like to use ontarget,   http://ontargetshooting.com/

Also type up specs of your rifle and ammo IE. Rem 700 with 168gr Federal SMK or Colt AR15 18" with Wolf 55gr FMJ or AK with 125gr Hand Loads PLEASE INCLUDE AMMO USED

*** Please include result at the end of your post in the final format:

Division you wish to be listed under with range, User_Name: Rifle Manufacturer and caliber - notable customizations- Scope- Ammo. Groups: 1"/2"/3"/4"/5" = avg. 3" = .287 MOA

If you do not post in this format or leave anything out your post will not be included.

8. In each division you can only have your name up once per gun. Meaning that if you shoot the Iron Sight 22lr with your 10/22 and average a 1.65” group and lets say place 4th. If you use that same gun and do worse, even if you would place better then someone else it will not count for your group. Best group counts.

Now if you then shoot Iron Sight 22lr with your M&P 15-22 and shoot better, say 1.25” average groups and place 2nd. Both that score and the 10/22 score will remain. Different guns will be allowed for different group rankings within a division. Best group counts.

This also goes for the 1 MOA list. Meaning only your best MOA will be ranked on the 1 MOA list BUT if you also shoot 1 MOA or less with a different rifle, that will also count and your name will be added to the list for each different rifle you shoot 1 MOA or less with.

9. Remember, this is NOT a Bullseye challenge, it's a Groups challenge.

10. Any and all ammo is fine I don't care if you use Factory loads or your super secret Hand Load that Moses gave you.

11. Ties in average will go to the shooter with the smallest group.

It is legal for open class though correct?  It would be first place in the open division.

Yeah, it would be in first place across the board @ .2202 moa .... it actually might be smaller considering those might be inch measurements and this was at 100 meters

OK, I reshot using the Triad Red Tac squeeze bag. Unfortunately, when I got to the range I only had 24 rounds. But to stay within the guide lines I figured I was gtg to run home and load 1 round to finish the groups. Of course that resulted in the one flier at the bottom left group.

Oh well, here we go:

SpeyRod, SPR, 16" LaRue Tobr, Burris Signature Select 3-12, 77 SMK over 23.7 Varget, Groups: .848, .941, .941, .965, 1.513=1.0416-.224=.8176/1.047=.781 moa

The Target:

The Setup:

I think I will get out and try to shoot this again, with 25 rounds at one time, after the new year.

Any issues with this submission?

I've been raving about Savage's out of the box accuracy for a while now and it's about time I back it up.

Savage 11 Hog Hunter, .223 Rem in a Choate Tactical Stock, Primary Arms 4-14x44 FFP Mil/Mil Scope, Burris Signature Zee Rings and Burris XTM 2 pc Base. Entire setup is sub $900.

Ammo is my own hand loads, 69gr SMK over 25.2gr IMR4320, Lapua Brass, CCI BR4 Primers. I seat about 0.010" away from the lands, which makes for a long cartridge at 2.385" COAL, too long to feed reliably from the mag in fact.

Rear sock is literally a pair of tube socks balled up.

Bolt Division at 100 yards

Anything goes on the front as far as I know:

"5. OK TO USE sandbag, rest, ruck, bipod, rock with a hat, sling etc. on forearm of the rifle."

I thought I was on here, but my entry disappeared.  So, here goes again.  The group sizes are clearly visible in the pictures.  The Savage is bolt division.  The AR would be SPR division.

I shot two rifles today.  The first was a Savage in .223.  This is the range and rifle set up.

Here is my group with caliper.

Bolt Division at 100 yards, AR-180: Savage .223, BSA Scope, 1.526" / 1.211" / 0.894" / 0.734" / 0.642" = 4.997" / 5 = 0.9994"

It just snuck under the limit at .9994".

The second rifle was an AR-15 I assembled.

Here is the group and caliper.

SPR Division at 100 yards, AR-180: Stag Lower with a Varmint parts kit, Bushnell Scope, 0.618" / 0.994" / 0.560" / 1.143" / 1.116" = 4.431" / 5 = 0.8862"

This one was a little better at .8862".

The Savage has a BSA 14x FFP scope.  The AR has a Bushnell HDMR 21x FFP with the Horus reticle.  The ammunition is 77gr Nosler reloads with XBR.  I used a Harris bipod on both with a MidwayUSA flat squeeze bag at the rear.

I tried to fit as much into each picture as possible to save uploads.

Well I didn't quite make it,  Had a few really good ones,  but on the average was about 1/4 over.  (50 yards) Will keep practicing.

Target one Five shot average was .697  , (.345, .653, .927, .972, .592)

Target two was .461 (this target only 20 rounds left,  so kept at it, but 5 rounds short. { .252, .652, .722, .262, .417}  The missing fifth shot for the smaller groups.

So a few pictures,

77 SMK handloads,  and 12 degrees in the mountains,  Nice day to be out.

Ill keep after it, and get the groups tighter.

Nice first post!  Also kudos to you for shooting in those conditions when most would never lay in the snow to attempt this challenge

Thanks,  Not quite laying in the snow, did have a white tarp, to keep the wet off.  Will keep after it.

Larue is dominating this thread.

Looks like I'll have to finally reload some rounds to compete.

OK, This submission replaces my last submission.

SpeyRod, SPR, LaRue Tobr 5.56, 77OTM Berger over 22.5gr Varget and Rem 7 1/2, (.649, 1.017, 1.039, .778, 1.072)=.911-.224=.687/1.047=.656moa

I have been spending a lot of time reading this section on how to shoot properly. I lost the fundamentals a couple times on this go and the groups opened up.

Thanks to Mark LaRue for making a truly exceptional gun!

I haven't even started shooting my Stealth yet. I doubt very much I can out shoot the #1 spot but I sure am going to try!

I must say, it would be kind of cool to get 4 LaRues in the top 5…

I better start saving for a 7.62 Tobr.
