THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
There's a thread in the Deer Hunting forum, but since it just covers deer and any weapon, I figured it would be nice to see what everyone gets with their bows. Whatever your game of choice is, deer, bear, hogs, squirrels, etc., lets see how you did this/next year.

Tell us what you used, how far, etc.

I'll start, openeing day doe. Switchback XT, 67#, 29", Rage three blade. She was 18 yards out, and went about 60 yards after the shot.

Nice shot!

You should use a broadhead that leaves a blood trail next time

No pics, I forgot my damn camera.

But I got 2 does yesterday afternoon.

1 was at 22 yards, at 6:03 pm

2 was at 11 yards, at 6:11 pm

Both were 3.5 years old.

Number 1 ran about 60 yards, and was hit through the top of the lungs.

Number 2 ran about 35 yards and was hit through the heart, and bottom of lungs.

These were my first 2 bow kills ever.

I'm hooked!!!

Congratulations. It feels good to get out there ealier than the firearms hunters, doesn't it? Our archery season opens tomorrow, so I'll be hunting tomorrow evening after work. It has started cooling down dramatically today after having weather in the 80's for so long. It's supposed to be upper 50's at least until the weekend. We're also looking at some possible rain, after going so long without any.

I'm just going to climb the same tree that I shot a doe from last season, and hope that the deer patterns are the same as before.

Good luck. And yes, it's nice. I've had a bunch of people tell me that deer season isn't open yet, and why are you shooting deer already.

Glad I gt 2 also. I'll probably be out of town until thanksgiving or so.

Sorry for the crappy, after-dark cell phone pic. Today was the second day of archery season. Yesterday evening, I hunted out of the same stand that I took a doe from on the third day of last archery season. I saw one doe yesterday, but she was 60 yards south of me. Tonight, I moved 40 yards south and climbed a tree. I had two does come past at around 40 yards in heavy foilage at 6:00 PM. At 6:30 PM, I had a red fox come past at 25 yards DOWNWIND. Good thing for Scent-Lok and good scent-reduction practices in general.

Around 6:45 PM, I heard a grunt behind me, and turned around to see what I thought was a small buck (its head was obstructed). Suddenly a fawn came charging down the hill towards it, and started nursing. I then realized that it was no buck. I got to watch that fawn bucking its head into the udder just like a young calf.

A little after 7:00 PM, I had two does walking right where I hoped they would be. I'd already ranged it at 25 yards earlier, so I was set. At 7:10 PM (about 45 minutes before last light), I watched that Lumenok streak right into the ribcage and disappear. Believe it or not, the mortally wounded doe ran up the opposite STEEP hill, which is unusual. I heard her crash, so I immediately called my brother on the cell phone for assistance and climbed down. I was perplexed when I didn't find my arrow stuck in the ground.

Since I'm colorblind when it comes to deer blood, we just walked up the hill looking in the leafy undergrowth. My sister-in-law yelled, "I've got her up here." When I rolled her over to show the the entrance wound, my sister-in-law said, "There's something glowing in that hole." Sure enough, it was my Lumenok about a half inch in. I pulled it and about 6" of arrow out. I lost a Rage broadhead and a brand new Victory Archery arrow, but that's the price you pay sometimes.

I gutted her and we hauled her out in my brother's Polaris Ranger. That thing sure came in handy.

David,

I don't know if you got my reply to your text last night or not, but I want to congratulate you. It's nice to get that first kill with new gear....makes the user get his confidence in it.

Hopefully this is the first of many to be put on the ground this year.

This is my first archery deer. I first started bow hunting about 8 years ago. I have shot tons of deer with black powder and shotguns in the past 15 years. I took two shots at deer and missed them both in the first two years, and spooked countless others due to sent or noise. I got discouraged and concentrated on BP and shotgun after that. I was always good on the 3d range but did not have much confidence in the woods.

The past couple of years I started using my Summit cobra climber more often and realized I could get close to deer. The two I shot last year were 18 and 25 yards respectfully. I decided to give archery another shot.

Oct 1st is the opener of archery season here in RI and I was on stand by 3pm. At 4:15pm a large doe came down the trail and I think I spooked her with my draw cuz she bolted. At 4:40 this buck came strutting by and stopped at 20 yards on a slight angle towards me. I hit him a little far back and he jumped about 3 feet straight up in the air.

I blood trailed him about 200 yards and found him laying in a stream.

My first archery deer. I shot him with a Darton Yukon, Carbon Express gametracker arrows and Rocky Mountain 100gr broadhead. He has 7 points and weighed 125 pounds.

Edit: Please pardon my messy shed

Took this little buck on Friday evening. I had to endure an entire 8 minutes in the stand! Before you judge me for taking such a little buck let me explain. I’ve turned down several small bucks here in Ga this year already. I have a guy in Tn that let’s me hunt 3,000 acres. He’s got a beautiful farm and a nursery. The deer destroy tens of thousands of dollars of trees in his nursery every year. So, the only stipulation to allow me to hunt this pristine area (my dad and I are only ones with permission to hunt there) is that we have to shoot every buck we can and bring him some jerky every now an then. Small price to pay and bringing even a spike out to show him makes him very happy and retains our good graces to continue to hunt.

As I said, I was in the stand for 8 min Friday evening. He came out from behind me about 8 yards away, walked out right in front of me at15 yards, quartered away at a 45 and looked the exact opposite direction from me.
Shot was a little high, arrow in pic as found. Spine shot, he dropped in his tracks. As fate would have it though, 45 min after this one was down a very nice 6 pt walked out at 5 yards and hung out for 10 minutes! (1 buck per day in Tn, so I enjoyed the show while gritting my teeth)

Saturday evening, I had 5 does come out. Pretty dicey for 35 min with 5 sets of eyes watching you, fanned out in a semi circle and coming right towards you. The biggest one, presented a great broadside shot at 22 yds. The rest is history documented in the pics.

Couldn’t hunt this morning though, b/c it was so late when I got her out Sat. all the check stations were closed so I didn’t have a tag, so I took advantage

What a weekend!

No pics but I have had a great year so far (first year really bow hunting)

Switchback XT 66#, 28.5" draw, Goldtip Pro Hunter, and 100gr Aftershocks

Opening day:
4 point at 30 yards
My first deer with a bow and I was on cloud nine!

Today:
8 point 17" OS spread at 15 yards
I shot him about 45min after I spooked a doe. I was about to get out of the stand but I hung in there and it paided off big time.

Best of luck to everyone!!

My 1st of the year.

This deer was either stupid or queer. When I shot him, he was chasing a button buck with his nose right up his ass!!

OK, details. Can't see too well in this pic, but it's a 4 point. 3 on the right.

Shot was 18 yards, thru the heart. He went 60 yards, and I watched him fall.

Bow is a Fred Bear SQ32, arrow is Easton ST Axis, Full Metal Jacket, broadhead is NAP Shockwave 100 gr.

That's my son to my left, my daughter took the pic and cut his head off. (I kind of suspect she did it on purpose.) To my son's left is the drag tool, Arctic Cat 650.

Well, I shot my second doe of the season this morning at 10:43 AM. I'd watched two does feed for an hour and fourty-five minutes 75 yards up the hill from me, until the last one left at 10:05 AM. I was just relaxing when I heard this doe trotting down the hill behind me. She caught me completely off guard, and I barely had time to stand up and grab my bow. I drew, anchored, and mouth-bleated her to a stop at 26 yards. After the shot, she ran perhaps 50 yards, stopped and swayed back and forth, then fell over.

Arrowed my third doe of the season tonight at 5:40 PM at 17 yards. Passed up a really good 120" 8-pointer at 22 yards around a half hour before.

Just a little dude but it will work. It is actually an 8 we didn't get the back tine in the pic as it is only like 2 inches long. Got smashed up while he was in velvet.

Arrowed my fourth deer of the season this morning. It's an 8-pointer that dressed out at 170 pounds. Not my largest rack or body, but still a good bow buck nonetheless.

For u observant types that is the exit wound of a somewhat quartering into me shot. It was very effective, down in sight within 50 yds.

3 deer (does), 1 hog (in texas), 1 elk so far this year. Non-typical year, last year I was skunked by the deer the entire season. elk trip to Montana was a blast, even though we suffered thru a heat wave in September (high 80's just north of Yellowstone).

6x5 elk, shot at 45, 50, 55 yards! got kinda determined it wasn't gonna get away, managed to get 3 hits on it. shot all 5 arrows out of the quiver, ran out of arrows! got up in a chain-on tree stand overlooking a water hole. 1st hit at 45 yards cut the achilles tendon on a back leg, hobbled the elk, 2nd arrow missed a bit low (50 yards), 3rd arrow was the fatal one (still stuck in the elk) at 50 yards. Elk limped to a pine tree 55 yards away, lay down. I sent in the last two arrows (didn't know the 3rd arrow had hit the heart), 4th arrow nicked a branch and hit the dirt, 5th arrow stuck the body, elk got up and limped 30 yards and lay down.

Bowtech Equalizer, 26 inch draw, 62 pounds, Muzzy 3 blade did the job.

still going out every week looking for a whitetail buck this year. If I get one, it will be a very good year!

I took this one Friday at 25yds. around 10am.
30yd recovery. I saw him go down.
Weight 155lbs
7pt
12.5" inside spread.
Neck was all swelled up. Tarsals were dry.
My best bow buck.
I called my brother to bring the 4-wheeler to help carry him out. I'd would have had a heart attack dragging that sucker.

Need more ammo.

Based on screen name and location you didn't shoot him on Langley by chance did you?

Thanks. I do most of my hunting in MD. I hunt a state park that is bow hunting only. I've seen some nice deer out there over the years and MD has a pretty liberal bag limit.

I did 13 years in the Navy. I was a jet mechanic on the Hawkeye, VAW-120, VAW-125, and VAW-122.

Which rage do you use?

I use G5 Montecs and love'em.
