First kill with the new bow. This morning started off rough. First, I didn't want to get out of bed when the alarm went off. Then an easterly wind narrowed down my stand site choices. Walking into the woods in the dark, I got turned around and once I realized that daylight was fast approaching, I just climbed the first straight tree and hoped for the best. I was drenched in sweat and not in the spot I had wanted to be, so imagine my surprise when a small 6-pointer showed up under my stand shortly after dawn. After he left, this nice doe showed up, and I arrowed her at 20 yards. The Lord certainly works in mysterious ways. I was angry because things were going against me this morning, and look, the "wrong" spot and conditions turned out to be the right ones.

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.
