this past saturday morning i went to my treestand like a normal weekend i had taken my friend with me cause he had never been hunting. we went to a two man stand on the back of the farm i didnt really think we were planning on seeing much but around 8:15 we started seeing lots of movement in the woods but nothing was coming into my little 50 yard open area we set up just for bow hunting. i saw a few nice does just moving in the woods so i used my fawn bleat to see if it would make any deer move to my field. around 9 a little fawn moved into bow range but i knew if i waited the mama doe wouldnt be far behind sure enough not 5 mintues the mama doe came out with another fawn and another big doe. i wanted the big doe but they knew something was up and moved into the treeline. the two fawns wandered around for a few mintues eating acorns. one fawn i believed could smell us and she moved into the woods also. i started thinking should i take this fawn i knew that my dad wouldve told me no if he was in the stand with me. i could still hear the other three moving in the woods but i heard the mama doe blow and they ran off. the fawn went to the edge of the woods and just stood there giving me the perfect shot. i stood up drawed me bow and she was broadside about 15 yards out so i shot and perfect double lung shot she ran and dropped 30 yards away i kept questioning myself the whole should i have shot this deer. but we cooked it that night and it was some of the best deer meat i have ever eaten in my life i belive if the fawn is your last resort take it you wont be disappointed in the meat quality i can assure you that as to the tanning the hide they look really nice when they have been done properly not to sure about mounting i stick the big ones for that

I have shot a bunch of yearlings over the years.  I shot three last year.  I was hunting to feed us.  I let the youth I was teaching to hunt shoot the big ones, I batted clean up.  I feel no remorse, those gifts from God kept my kids eating meat through February.  Things were tight and not buying meat for three months really helped. I would do it again without blinking.  I just head shoot them so there is no waste.

I passed on 3 doe on opening day 28 yards from my stand.  One had spots so I refused to shoot the group.  I am sorry but I do not feel like just killing things for shits n giggles and I do not need the meat to survive.
