THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT

Saw five does coming from the "wrong" direction (I was expecting them to come from the left). By the time I got the camera turned on, it was too late to shoot the first few. Then my safety harness tether got stuck, and I had to unsnag it. By the time I got drawn, the last doe was trotting to catch up with the others, and I had to mouth bleat a couple of times to stop her. I then had to fire off a split-second arrow, which hit a little back and center-punched the liver. I left the woods for a couple of hours, then my wife and I went back and found her dead. She was already stiffening, so she'd more than likely expired right after the shot.

Wow, I thought I had a good spot. As I watched doe after doe go by, I kept thinking of those shooting galleries with the rows of ducks.

Looks like a great day to be out hunting there. Congrats

Today is opening day in Oklahoma, but I have a pheasant trip to South Dakota with my 80 year old grandfather and my father in two weeks so no woods time this weekend for me. Thanks for sharing.

Nice. Good action there. I shot a doe Saturday morning at 8:03 (opening day). I wasn't sure how long the rain would hold off. No video though. I can't imagine dragging MORE shit in the woods like a camera, etc.

wow. I wish I saw deer like that.

What are you using for a camera and how is it mounted?

My season starts 1 week from today.

I use a little swingarm. Here's the camera:

I always place my archery stands at 20 feet, be it a lock-on or climber. If I'm using a climber, I hook one end of my 20-foot bow rope to the base of my stand, and attach the other end to my bow on the ground. When the rope pulls tight when I'm climbing, I know I'm at 20 feet.

Thanks for the info...I hunt 3 stands, 1 is 12' and the other 2 are 16' and oddly enough I have taken more deer from the 12' stand. But i want to get higher I think as I noticed you drew on that buck with it coming right at you and it never saw a thing.....I have to becareful on my draws at 12' as I have been busted a few times

He was on a mission and wasn't going to give me a "perfect" opportunity to draw (head behind obstruction, etc.), so I had nothing to lose. To be quite honest, I've never been busted while drawing a bow on a deer.

One more thing, all the deer in the videos were between 15 and 20 yards when I shot them. The camera fools you into thinking they are farther than that.

Footage from this morning:

Had 13 antlerless deer and two small bucks around me. Couldn't reposition the camera due to all of the eyes, but still thought that I had the deer in frame. :(

Check out the huge buttons on that button buck that comes through right before the doe!

Great stuff!

On average, where you have clear lanes, how high are you hanging your stand?

Thanks

Always 20 feet –– ALWAYS.

Nice moments captured there.

I thought I was in your woods Saturday morning. I went blind into a patch of woods I've never been in and wandered into an outstanding hillside looking over some thick bottomland. Had thick cover up high on the hill, clean water stream below and fresh acorns on the hill (acorns are scarce this year, were covering the ground last). It was non-stop activity in the woods from dawn to about 9 am when I ended up sticking a doe at 15 yards. Deer and turkey galore. I saw six deer and no less than 10 counted turkeys moving in a flock raising hell, mostly hens with a couple of toms. Then 30 minutes later, one lone grandaddy gobbler with a beard dragging the ground sneaking along their same trail. They were all over 40 yards away, near the first tree I was thinking about climbing that was up higher on the hill. Most of the deer and turkey were following that same path, so I'm going to try that tree next time. The doe I got was sneaking along the edge of the swamp down below like I though they would.
