THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I'm going to purchase some new arrows. Should I go with Carbon or stay with aluminum? Thanks |

Ive missed and hit the wood pile with aluminium and they bend, Ive hit the wood pile with carbon and they shatter - Ive glanced the wood pile with aluminium and they bend. Ive glanced the wood pile with carbon and they are fine.
The carbon seem to take side stresses better. |

I've been very happy with carbon, however I need to start playing around with spine stiffness. I shoot mechanical broadheads and I have been displeased with penetration of the carbons over the aluminum. I think if I change stiffness, I'll be pleased with the results. As far as shattering, I'm not sure of your experience and would welcome to hear your basis. On Sunday I shot the 4th deer with the same carbon arrow. This is also a large advantage in my eyes b/c if I shot a deer with an aluminum arrow, I chucked it b/c odds are it was bent. OP, I don't think you can go wrong with either. I think each has their own advantage/disadvantage, but as all things archery, it boils down to setting them up correctly. |

Thanks for the input.
Now what about broad heads? Regular or mechanical? |

I prefer carbons now after shooting aluminum for a long time, the extra speed and resistance to bending was well worth the switch.
With that said, I don't shoot a super lightweight arrow at uber-velocity. My carbons are 438gr including the 125gr broadhead. They're not fast, but maintain very good kinetic energy. edit to add: I also prefer fixed blade broadheads, 125gr Muzzy 3-blade |

carbon. gold tip +/- .002 the green label ones. i have hit about everthing from target to deer to trees to the fence and have not had one shatter. with that said if the shaft has ANY defects it goes straight to the trash. i have heard of them, with defects, splintering upon release and getiing into your arm. but i have been shooting a dozen for about a year now only one has become trash. been through many refletchings. i do shoot a lot aleast try to shoot everyday since the bow hangs by the back door. so everytime i walk into the kitchen day or night i pick up bow and take a few shots out the backdoor. aleast try to. i shoot the 125 gr. magnus stinger, but with the fixed blades you will more than likely need to shoot 4 to 5 inch vanes to get the accuracy u are looking for. goodluck, this is my set up and my opinion.

Carbon is the way to go. The aluminum ones bend, carbon arrows tend to just bounce. Yes, they sometimes break but they are much more durable overall. I have always used Muzzy 100g 3 blade broadheads and been happy with the way they flew (never shot an animal with them so I can't tell you personally about performance on animals, I'm a good archer but not a great hunter

Carbon arrows, with fixed broadheads.
I dont buy super fancy arrows. I don't shoot as much as I should, but my carbon arrows have help up well.
Last year I shot a tree after passing through a deer and the arrow is still useable. |

Get both. Easton Full Metal Jackets (aluminum wrapped carbon) are really good.
