I am looking at a Diamond Nuclear Ice or PSE Mini Burner for my 8 year old for Christmas.

He wants to start shooting a bow and I want to buy him a good one (Buy once Cry once) I believe I have it narrowed down to the Diamond Nuclear Ice or PSE's Mini Burner youth bow.

Does anyone have any experience with either one of these?

I dunno... they grow fast bro. I hear you about buying a good one... I normally feel the same way. However, when it comes to young kids, you kinda have to consider how fast they grow and such. Same reason why I wouldn't buy my daughter $85 sneakers... her feet would be crammed into them WAY before she ever got her money's worth out of them.

I started my daughter with one of those little Barnett compounds with like a 15lb pull for $25 or so. She shot it until it was just too small for her. Took a break from it for a while, and then just recently she wanted to get back into it, she's now 14, bigger, stronger, so I got her a Razor Edge. I don't have to worry about her EVER outgrowing that bow. It goes up to 60lbs on the pull. She'll never need more bow than that, and I know I won't be dropping another $400 on a bow for her any time soon.

Just food for thought. :) It's great having your kid wanting to get into stuff like archery, hunting and fishing.

Bowtech's Soldier model comes in two varieties, one that can be adjusted from 20 to 40# and another that goes from 40 to 65#. Not exactly sure if both models have the same range of draw length adjustment, but the upper model can be adjusted from 22" to 29" draws. At the time I got mine, I wasn't interested in the lower draw weights so I didn't ask if it was just a parts exchange or a totally different bow. Possibly something to look into. They're usually around $400, including a few accessories.
