THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Budget: 600 stuff she want: 1. everything that normally comes in those "bow kits" that you find online at like Bass Pro Shops (I stopped her from buying one until I asked around). 2. A release. 3. I was thinking one of those packs of 6 arrows and 6 field tips. not sure if we should go carbon or aluminum. I know his draw length is 29 inches... HELP!!!! P.S. I know everyone is going to say go to the local pro shop but that place is a big time rip off, also my mom will not be deterred in buying him this gift as a secret and I want him to have something good or at least get his moneys worth so help a guy out. |

Are you positive that you know his draw length? Draw length is the most critical aspect of the purchase, unless you get a bow that draw length is easily adjusted on.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that I've got it right. We went down to the pro shop here and he was measured.
EDIT: After looking around a bit I have to say I am leaning heavily toward the Bowtech Assassin R.T.H. package. |

Well... we've actually made a purchase. After even more deliberation we spent alot more and got him this setup:
Bow: Hoyt Rampage XT Sight: Fuse Carbon Interceptor Quiver: Fuse Ventera 5 arrow Stabilizer: Fuse Axium 7inch. Sling: Very cool custom by the Guy at the pro shop Release: Scott Rhino XT Arrows: 12 Easton Storms We ended up spending about a grand in total but I think he's going to love it. I'm pretty stoked. I went out on the tractor and cleared a 50X20 space for a range on my dads land. |

Here's a pic of his new setup. We haven't had the peep installed yet, the day after Christmas he's got an appointment to go in to have his draw fully setup, the peep put in and his arrows cut to size.

Yeah the only problem is now I've got the bug... The pro shop has a sweet 2011 carbon element on sale that may be coming home with me... Is a carbon element to much for a first bow...lol

I shoot a 2011 carbon Element and the key is not to shoot it and then try to buy something else... just get it if you like it and don't look back. |

Yeah I already shot it. The pro shop has a 10,000 sqft range and they'll pretty much let you shoot anything on the rack
So I pretty much shot everything on the rack, lol. After I shot the carbon element that was it. |

Nice! I was going to suggest the Bowtech Assassin for your original budget, as it is just as fast or faster than the RampageXT, and doesn't feel like it's going to rip your arm off if you creep just a little bit (main reason I didn't get a Hoyt). Since you bumped up your budget, you made a good choice. Hoyt makes quality bows, for sure, but I don't care for their draw cycle. I found a bow that is just as fast/faster than the RampageXT and much smoother for myself.
