Just started to shoot a bow again, i am 29 and havent shot since i was shooting my grandfathers hand me down Golden eagle when i was 14 years old.

I went to the local shop and ended up buying the mission venture, seems like a pretty nice bow for a novice. Everything i have read says its the best bang for your buck at just under 500 for the bare bow, and its made at the same place as the highend matthews bows. Of course out the door ready to hunt with all kinds of fancy widgets and gadgets on it the total was around 900 with a half dozen CE ICS 400 arrows. (keep in mind i said i was a beginner so i needed an entire setup, release and all) before you go stoning me to death over droping 400 on outfitting the bow, i bought an awsome light up sight and a drop down rest anyways you know what i am getting at.

SO fellow arfcom bow hunters , was this a wise purchase for a beginner or should i of went all in with the 1000 dollar heli and spent another 400 decking it out bringing the total to 1400-1500 range?

Shoot me some feedback

thanks

I had a mission eliminator 2 that I picked up used. It was an excellent bow, one of the smoothest drawing bows I had ever shot.. Sold it to move up to a z7. traded the z7 for a monster6. Sold the monster 6 and bought a 2012 mr8. So you are off to a good start. The mission bows are every bit as good as the mathews labelled bows. You will definitely be happy with it.

if you look on page 3 of the pic thread there is a pic of the eliminator, the monster 6 and my latest purchase the mr8.

I think it's an ideal place to start. In my opinion, it fits all the criteria of a good beginner bow, and they are truly a quality made product.

Most bows out there are good bows, and the Venture is just fine to start with It's a quality product made by Mathews. Having tried one myself, however, I just wasn't impressed with the Venture. I would have recommended a Bowtech Assassin package (R.A.K package) that would have gotten you everything but arrows and release for about $600. Faster, smoother, and more value.

The key, though, is that it fits you and you like it. It will certainly kill any whitetail, turkey, or elk on this planet with the right arrow/broadhead combination.
