THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT i finally found a job after being out of work for 10 months, so this has to be done on the cheap iffin' ya know what I mean. I got it for taking a tree down for a friend.. he has a new Parker and gave me this one for my efforts. I haven't bow hunted in over 20 yrs due to a pretty severe dislocation with torn rotator cuff... but want to give it another shot this season. Draw weight is set at 80lbs.. but that's the least of my worries. I can pull it back.. hurts, but I can always turn it down to around 65 if needed. Anyway, I need to shorten the draw length from 29.5 inches to eith 26 or 26.5 inches.. I'm a kind smallish guy.. 29.5 puts the release behind my ear..lol. I have already been birdogging this for a day or two and here is what I have found out so far... It has ols style "hatchet cams" with a pretty agressive ramp profile. Some folks are saying Diamond, obviously as it's silkscreened on the limbs and engraved into the limbplates. Other folks are saying High Country but Donna says no. One other guy in Lynchburg, VA said it might have been made by Alpine, but no further info or help. I have been in touch with Donna over at High Country Archery.. They owned Diamond for a short period of time...no-go, she can't help. I called B&B Archery in Manassas and they are buried with a lot of custom stuff to finish up before the season opens... says he can't help. Might to be able to do custon cables and string, but limb deflection is iffy and will cost major bucks. Not worth it... and not until way late in the season. I tried Hoffman Archery in Warrenton and they can't help... I emailed a guy on evilbay and sent pics, but haven't heard back as of yet
So here are the pics.. can anybody help an old fart out? I'm located in Stafford, VA and hope to hunt on Quantico just because it's close...
a pic of the cam/module in question..
TIA, Mike |

I have no idea about that bow, but since you say that it is a Diamond brand, your best bet would be to contact Diamond Archery directly:
http://www.diamondarchery.com/contact.php Now, on to the nitty gritty. My advice would be to not even attempt to use an 80-pound bow, especially with shoulder problems. It has been proven that a 50# bow will kill things like deer and black bear every day of the week, so why hurt yourself more? The last nine deer I've killed with an arrow have been from a bow set at 53#. Heck, Ted Nugent only uses a 48# Martin. I'd venture to guess that all of the big name speedbows today have a 50-pound option –– today's 50-pound bow will smoke yesterday's 70-pound bow in both speed and kinetic energy. I understand that due to financial constraints that you have to work with what you have though. The best you can do is shorten the draw length to where you need it and back down the draw weight to the lowest setting that is still safe. Your correct draw length will be your wingspan measurement (fingertip-to-fingertip of outstretched arms) divided by 2.5. Good luck! |

Is it all carbon?
I would ask on archerytalk if there are any dealers who might have some old parts laying around. I sold Diamond and High Country when I was a dealer and we had all kinds of modules for old models. My stuff has been gone for years, but I bet someone can help you. However, i have to agree that that bow is not worth spending any money on if you have a bad shoulder. That injury will manifest itself by a multiple of 3 or 4 when you need to draw under pressure of hunting. Breaking those cams over is going to be tough. 80lbs is what I hunted with when I was in my 20s. I also used an overdraw. I was lucky to get 250fps out of a hunting rig like that. |

I already found cams and modules for 50 bucks shipped.. if USPS is on their game they should be here tomorrow...
If I can actually shoot the thing without hurting myself I'm gonna have "Crackers" Carter hook me up with cables and a fresh string. Seems to me the biggest issue is having to go beyond my comfort zone before it breaks over... once there I'm all good so far. I only have 50 bucks in it.. so I figure it's worth a try anyway ![]() |

Cams came today and as I feared, they are no where close to as aggressive as the existing ones..
Still gonna give it a shot though |

How much does that bow weigh?
If it is one of Diamond's original all carbon riser bows it might be worth some money to someone?? I honestly don't know if they hold any value, but it might be worth checking into. |

I think I have located correct modules for the original cams.
Problem is the screws were loktited in and the guy at Gander stripped the screw heads trying to get them out. If I swap them temporarily, I can apply some heat to the old ones to get the screw remnants out. The modules are marked on the backsides. I don't want to apply heat with it strung... Anyway.. The saga continues...lol |

Got the cams swapped out and new buss cables and string done..
I shot it a bunch this afternoon.. kinda like riding a bike, arrows touching at 40 yds for the first 20 or so... then my shoulder started hurting and groups opened up a bunch... 4 inch groups after 80 or so shots... I guess I just need time to get the strength back in my shoulder. I'm gonna stick it out though.... Thanks for the help guys |

Awesome.
I think you will be ok if you can shoot 80 arrows first time out in a while. |

I hope the deer don't hear it..lol

What about Green Top for service work? Their guy is top notch and I believe they're a Diamond dealer. After some past dealings I won't let the clowns at Gander Mountain look at my bow.
ETA- If you decide to hunt Quantico, and avoid mainside. Try to get a unit near the ASP on MCB 1 or out MCB 2 from Smith Lake rd to TBS. There is a monster 8 by the ASP and there's been a huge 10 on MCB 2 across from Smith Lake Rd for the past two years. They're both big enough to make me start thinking about hunting up here. |

Thanks for the tips on hunting MCB. They don't allow rifles so I have never hunted there... I don't even own a shotgun..lol
A guy up the street mentioned Greentop.. but I watched the kid (Zach) doing this like a hawk.. he did OK. The older guy (Ed) is kinda scary.. another manager type (Chris..?) is better though. All in all, I got off cheap... and it still seems to be pretty fast and a very consistent shooter. I'm pleased with the experiment so far. |
