I've been hunting with a Martin Cheetah for the past few seasons with some success pursuing deer and hogs, but have always been one of those DIY kinda guys. Is there a good book or video anyone can recommend to get started into bow/arrow making. I enjoy working with wood and have access to a top of the line wood shop (studio art major) and just have that itch to give it a go. Something that can give me step by step instructions and cover everything from material selection to finishing and arrow making.

Basically, where the hell do I start? I've seen some books on amazon that are cheap, but thought I'd ask here before I waste any money.

Hopefully this isn't too late, since I've just discovered this forum, but the Bowyer's Bible series is great if you can get your hands on them. That is kind of like the "theory" portion of the class. To really learn, I suggest you hook up with somebody who knows what they're doing and build a bow with them.

Go to www.primitivearcher.com and talk to some folks from your area. You should find someone who's eager to get to know you and teach you how to do it. If anything, the community is eager to grow. There's a big event here in Middle TN every year where folks get together, camp out and build bows, then have a tournament. I went a couple years ago as a loner and had a great time, but I woke up in an inch of water and had to leave early. (That was the day Nashville was flooded)

I built my own bow from a provided stave and I loved it. It only lasted a month or so due to an ever-so-tiny knot on the bottom limb, but the experience was worth the pain. :)
